Variax Replacement Advice

I'm wanting to get a Strat body/neck made to suit my Variax 500 electronics.  Can anyone offer me advice as to what woods to choose - I mainly play rock, blues, rockabilly, surf and reggae if that's any help, and I prefer clean mildly overdriven tones to balls-out distortion.

Can anyone show me pics of their Variax replacement projects?  I'd really like to see what other ideas people have come up with

I think that in the case of using Variax electronics for a build, the body/neck wood choices won't have as much of an impact on sound as might otherwise be the case; I'd go for something sexy/exotic for the body and whatever turns your crank neck-wise.
