Using Routing Patterns

OK, then. Over the last week, I made a router table to get this project done. I also bought a new 2 hp router to put in it. There's no fence on it but I can add that when I need one. I also ordered a set of Forstner bits and a separate 5/16" one for the string ferrules. Now I can start thinking about getting things done. When I get a bit of extra time here and there.

Good looking router table you got there. Very nice work!  :headbang:

I've made 5 or 6 router tables over the years, including the 8' long one in my shop. Unfortunately, because it's so big, it ends up being a catch all for whatever I'm too lazy to put away! (I'd include a picture, but I'd have to dig it out first....) So, I built one into an extension on my table saw, which gets the most use.

Thanks, pards. Steve, I'd bet the one on your table saw would be most convenient.

I'm looking forward to actually working on the guitar one of these days.  :icon_biggrin:

If I had a table like you guys I'd be very tempted to make this Jagstang Done Right by Paul Rhoney (but with a hardtail bridge).

The one I made, including the plywood, MDF, glue and screws, only cost about $50. Assuming you already have a router, you're in business. If not, there'll be one on sale somewhere if you shop around.

I'd love to see that Jagstang put together. Kevin's pattern sets are quite nice.

Maybe I should order the Jagstang Done Right templates and have them shipped to Kevin and then ask him to make me that body? That way it would be done the way it should ... (compared to if I should do it - I've never done such elaborate guitar work before ...)

Hmm ...

Nah, maybe not yet, I'm still waiting on the Mustang he's going to ship to me.

But perhaps someday ...

Love to do it when you can see your way clear. Barring unforseen circumstances, the other stuff should go this week.

That's excellent Kevin! Looking forward to this. PM me the details and we'll sort it out.

About the Jagstang Done Right - it's very, very tempting. We have to discuss that as well. I'm getting a new amp soon (a Hughes & Kettner) so it won't be in the immediate future.
But I guess I could always order those templates and have them shipped to you for a future collaboration. MDF or acrylic?

Hughes & Kettner makes some nice stuff.

I prefer acrylic templates if they're reasonably thick, but either will work.

They're both 1/4" thick.
I've ordered the acrylic one now and it's on it's way to you. :icon_thumright:

You know Kevin at Faction also sells the control plates. He makes them out of 14ga polished stainless. I'm probably going to get mine from him if he has a plain one with no holes.

Yes, I know. For that eventual Jagstang Done Right I probably would go with this hardtail, since I'm no fan of the Jaguar tremolo:

Since you're going to have Kevin route it for you, you could have him route it for a different bridge. My Marauder will have a Telecaster bridge.

I thought about that, but I actually like the Faction special hardtail. I think it kind of fits and adds nicely to the guitar. So if (more probably - when) this project will come about I thought I'd have Kevin put a tuneomatic bridge there together with that tailpiece.

That way I can make those cool behind-the-bridge noises. Listen at 0:19

Hard to believe that tune was recorded in '78. Still kicks ass.

Right? That whole first album of theirs sounds amazing. Even though it's lofi with guitar on one side and the bass on the other.
