Sorry no pics yet...  ( I know, I know...)

Kinda bittersweet.

The body is exactly what I wanted.

The neck however... 1. I should have gotten bigger frets  and, 2. I got a Ebony fretboard - I was expecting a nice uniform black but there are some lighter streaks/smears that I'm not to thrilled about.

Kinda sucks, but its not Warmoths fault (I'm aware that Ebony can in fact have some color variation, but was hoping it wouldnt have been what I received in the end). Sigh.

Don't even trip about the streaks in your fingerboard; that can be fixed.
What you should be trippin' about is posting this new arrival without pics  :laughing8:

If you want to be sure to have a solid black ebony fingerboard, you should order the jet black ebony option.
That being said, you can stain it jet black with this Black Fingerboard Stain from StewMac

Good luck, welcome to the forum, and remember; pics or it does not exist...

Awesome!

I could have lived with it (the neck still rules!) but that I can dye it just makes it all the better!

Thanks man!  :icon_thumright:

What kind of frets did you get?

No...  how dare you cover up EBONY? Streaked. Better.  :icon_thumright:

Want pics man. Sorry about the small fretts. I thought my neck was too thin when I got it but I got used to it... you know for the next build, eh?
Hope your guitar turns out great.  :toothy10:

i think warmoth offers "jet black ebony" for your next purchase  :icon_thumright:  which is either already dyed, or hand picked to be the darkest. my guess would be dyed.

need pictures!

i thought my ss6105 frets were big, i really only had one other neck to compare it to though.(1993 MIM strat)

See, I had the opposite issue... my Jackson and ESP both have 'jumbo frets' compared to say, standard Strat or Tele fretwire - I thought I was getting the same size (roughly) on my Warmoth neck, and when I ordered I thought the 6100's would have been too big. Turns out... nope!  :dontknow: But honestly, I'm ok with the 6105s... they're growing on me (even though I have yet to play on them of course), Lol.

Ok... the pics...

Dunno about you guys, but the streaks gotta go! BTW when I placed my order, I didnt see any 'Jet Black' fingerboard option (believe me, I would have picked it!), nor did I get the 'pick your own fretboard wood' option either. I should have added something to the order's 'notes' section, so my bad again for not remembering to do so. But I guess the dye makes it all a moot point (besides the fact I have to spend a little more money, and the time to apply it, etc.).

You probably would have spent more on the upcharge for a solid black piece of ebony.

Hey,
I am diggin' the steaks in your fingerboard.  It looks way cool...
However, I understand the disappointment of not receiving what you expect.
The price of a dye job is less than $7.00 plus time and labor...

I would say, give the streaks a chance.  You can always do a dye job.
Let the natural beauty of your ebony shine for awhile and then decide...

Be cool &  :rock-on:

Agreed, I say let it be, it gives the neck some character. And a little pizzaz to the build... :icon_thumright:

oh man, I love that ebony board!!! its really killer! i always hope to get something like that, but it never happens :( lucky devil

PS: the 6105 is actually rather big. the feel is big, smooth and fast, especially it being stainless steel, and paired on an ebony board! just try it on with some strings, and then we'll talk ;)

I usually don't care much for alder(?) bodies, but this time, i do like it! very 'rock 'n roll', and very versatile. with good hardware, this guitar will be KILLER!

+1 Loving the streaks, makes it look more natural.  :party07:

I love those streaks. My ebony fretboard came out very black, but it was showcased, so I got to see it beforehand.
Opinions vary though, so do what pleases YOU!

I didn't see it mentioned before, so is this 10-16 compound radius & Standard thin profile?

Yup, compound radius, standard thin.

I know how you feel.  I have an Ebony board on a bloodwood neck that has some streaking.  If it was uniform or symmetrical I would be ok with it, but its running at about a 30 degree angle and looks odd.  I'm going to try that dye though.  Looks like a good idea.

Gotta spec Jet Black Ebony for that, and there's an upcharge.  Looks good as is though.  It'll still feel and sound like Ebony.

I believe (like a few others) that before long you'll warm to the uniqueness of the fingerboard.  While I understand it was a surprise - in this cookie cutter world...you'll not find another like it.  *I* like your fingerboard, as I've come to enjoy how the woods on my instruments have been different.  Give it a chance to grow on you (there's still always the dye).  You may be surprised how YOU feel after other players pile on the compliments  :glasses10:
