Thanks again for the input guys. Much appreciated. A quick update on my neck selection dilemma:
So after much deliberation I finally decided on an all pau ferro neck, and was ready to pull the trigger. I had my heart set on vintage modern construction (really wanted the alleged "woody" sound and a 1-piece). And although it's not a standard option listed on the website, I was hoping W could pull it off...even if it meant a bit of an upcharge or something. Unfortunately, I learned that a vintage modern is absolutely, positively, not an option for an all-pau neck. They never buy neck blanks in pau ferro that would work for a VM. Ack!
Anyway, so now I'm back to decision making I really wanted a raw neck, but I think rosewood is the only raw option for a vintage modern. I know many people rave about them; but unfortunately, I have a couple of guitars with rosewood fingerboards and am personally not crazy about the feel. I really don't want to take a chance on shelling out a ton of cash for a neck that I might not love the feel of, so that's not going to happen.
So, now I have to decide what I want to compromise on: do I want an all-pau neck that's a pro construction 2-piece, or a matte finished 1-piece maple vintage modern (probably birdseye or flame)? Construction, or wood? Stupid decisions. Fortunately, the pickups I ordered (Don Mare is making them) won't be here for two months, so I have some time to think about it. I'll keep you guys updated on what I decide on.
Btw...the body arrived last week, and it is absurdly gorgeous. I'd post pics, but the ones from the showcase look way better than anything I could take with my crappy iphone camera. Once I have some decent progress on construction, I'll put some up so you can see how it's coming.
