Damn you Warmoth and your wood porn!

So, I've been contemplating a tele build for a while, but was planning on starting it six months or so from now.  And then today THIS showed up in the ol'  RSS feed.  The price point was a little higher than I'd planned on spending, but my total lack of willpower resulted in my pulling the trigger on it anyway.

As a result, I now have an unanticipated body coming to me and am contemplating what neck to put on it.  Was thinking raw - either pau ferro or canary, but would appreciate any suggestions.  I'm going for a traditional tele twang with a bit more growl.    Pickup or bridge suggestions are welcome as well...I haven't even started on the planning stages yet.  This was pretty much a total impulse buy.

Sadly, it's going to take me a few months to pull together the cash to complete the build, so you guys are going to have to wait a bit to see anything actually come together.  I promise  it will be nice though!

Warmoth almost seems like a scam..
they distract you with all sorts of beautiful woods and finishes, and before you know it youre out $500!  :laughing7:
thats quite the find  :icon_thumright:

Wow, that is truly amazing. And truly rare, not often do you see spalted quilted maple...Good find.... :icon_thumright:

Wow! I can see why you couldn't resist. That's one of kind.

I don't know what I'd put on it for a neck. Ziricote over Koa? Gotta be something unique, but not scene-stealing.

Wow, that is a real beauty  :glasses9:
You must have pulled the trigger on that immedieatly upon spotting it.
I watch the RSS feed all day at work and never saw it.
Great catch  :headbang1:

I'm in love with Wenge so that's what I'm going with.  What a great piece of wood!  I saw that one too, but I have a bloodwood neck so, I'm waiting for something reddish that would work to RSS it's way to my heart!

Congrats! Great find.
I drooled over it myself - but have too many other things on the go.
Those lower showcase prices sure stripped the showcase bare - almost none of the beauty exotics left!
Not in a strat headstock, but as a concept:

I think a dark fretboard would set off the burst nicely, and a non-maple neck would continue on in the smoky feel the body has.

Or an all pau-ferro neck. Yep that would be great.

That's stunning, but anything other than maple would look overkill for the neck and detract from the appeal of the beautiful body, imo.

I proposed flame maple because of the quilted maple pattern : it would be more "continuous" with the body, no pattern breaking, like if neck and body were in 1 piece only, if you follow my thought...

All Pau Ferro!

I was playing my Pau Ferro necked P-bass the other day, and "growl" is the perfect word for it.

I hate, Hate, HATE all things Telecaster (indeed, all things Fender) - but that is a beautiful body and finish!
