While on the Dallas Guitar Show, the last vendor we came across was Red Dirt guitarworks (or wood tone) and we (mr Luke and myself) made a great deal for 2 white pine tele bodies!
(so not W, therefore I posted this in off-topic)

so I decided to make this a nice budget project, but can't decide on the finish... so I need your help!!!!!
I initially thought about a bit of a vintage, 50s vibe, but since Max suggested the Mary Kay with Mint PG, I am also leaning towards something more unique and experimental. I also really liked Willy's Barn Door finish, and since the white pine reminds me of a barn door, that may be a good idea.

so, I am basically open to all ideas. it has to be a rub, oil or rattle can finish!

Since it's pine, there's no problem finding test pieces.  Go get a 2x4 from Lowes or Home Depot, cut it up and see how they take dyes, stains, and grain fill.  I always prefer a transparent finish of somesort.  BTW, I haven't seen you do a bad finish yet.  Shouldn't we be asking you how to finish, Mr. Guitar of the Year?

It might be fun to just mail it up to Mayfly's bass player and see what she can do.

Trans white with flowers on it, it could be furniture in my grandmother's house. All she owns seems to be trans white pine with flowers.

What neck is going on it? Canary would rock, from a distance it could pass for dirty maple. This guitar needs a relic job.

Exactly! I think I have a couple of pieces of pine in the garage that I will be experimenting on!
I like Mayfly's projects, but you have met me, and I am not really a flowery guy!  :icon_biggrin:

oh, and to clarify what I meant by Barndoor finish, here is what I had in mind:

Canary would be nice, but this will have to be a low budget project, so probably a maple/maple, possibly a recycled one.

I'm doing a pine body for a local player and I am really looking forward to hearing it.  We discussed a Mary Kaye finish but settled on a solid color.

The grain on yours is much stronger than his so it should look good as a Mary Kaye if you shoot the pickling color really translucent.

I think the barn door look would be real easy to get with Zinsser Amber Shellac.

I vote for willyk's "rusty" look....Or barndoor as you call it...

But when I think of barn door, I envision this... :icon_scratch:

Yeah I'm with Doug... Thats the first thing that popped into my head.  You see a lot of that stuff growing up on a farm...  If you could pull that off and have a guitar that isn't actually falling apart, than you've got some talent I'd say.

my vote is still "barn door" with a black pickguard. here's one of ron kirn's pine teles. this is from an actual barn though. he's doing a run of them. this might be the prettiest i've seen of them yet though!
