So I finaly landed a heritage accoustic, It's a 1990 HFT 445, they never really made to many, it's 25 1/2 scale, spruce top, maple neck with rosewood board, mahogany rim and back. She's had a hard life, neck was re-set kinda ugly but solid and the angle is correct, nice low action no buzz, at some point a huge copper jack plate was pot on, I kinda like the 2000 leagues under the sea look it gives. it has quite a bit of strumming scat including a chip out of the sound hole, but for all the use little fret ware. She was obviously a gigger as evidanced by the large number of nicks and dings, but few if any through the nitro. The best part is the sound, got a great deep growl but also has crisp highs, best sounding dred I'v played probably ever.. and the neck plays like an es 175. low and slim, super easy to fret bare chords and solo. I'm hoping this weekend I will be able to remove all the hardware and buff her with rubbing compound.

the second is a 1970 aria pro banjo, I've blithered on about it before so i'll spare you the speal. I'm getting the scrugs right hand roll down, should be up and playing soon..

Cool instruments! The jack does look naval (but more like brass?)  :icon_thumright:

yes you are correct. brass not copper

I was thinking about using a lacquer stic for some of the chips. any one ever do this, hard -easy?

The Heritage looks like a sweet score.  Looks like a bone saddle already, I'd say drop in a bone nut if that ones plastic.  :hello2:

Go banjo go! I prefer open-backs, but still. Good purchase!

bone saddle graphite nut, I played it quite a bit tonight the neck is super thin and easy to fret I can even do metal runs, the finish has lots -o-dings and scrapes, not many through to wood, I'm liking it in a willie kinda way, the body is 16" so smaller for a dread but has a huge soun. I'm thinking it's a keeper.

cool finds.  I dont' think i'll ever mess with re-setting a neck on an acoustic.  I'm glad you didn't have to do it yourself.  Unless of course you like that sort of thing.

oh.. and in case I missed it or something..
Welcome Back CB! missed ya! :rock-on:

nice instruments!

Regarding the banjo - Having seen what my mom went through to learn and get very good at bluegrass banjo, I say hats off to any one who can master that style.  It's actually freaking hard and requires a lot of practice!

lots and lots of muscle memory. for the right hand I try to practice the roll while drinking a beer with my left. sometimes I get it most times I don't. either way makes the practice fun!
