I am thinking about doing a transparent blue finish on a body like this.

I am basically looking for about this dark only blue.

Do you think it would come out to dark?

I think that greenish-brown wood under blue might have a tendency to make the blue look a little less brilliant than the green you use as an example, but I don't think it would be terrible by any stretch.  I just worry you'll lose the contrast of the figuring if you coat it in blue transparent.

I think it's a waste of beautiful wood.

just my 2 cents though.

i love the look of that body and it's been the in showcase forever

Hmm maybe not then.  I may end up getting some sort of carved top.  Lately I have really wanted a B7 Bigsby.

I did see a black korina top with a trans blue finish and it looked excellent. I can't figure out where the hell I saw it though.

I'd say do it. But then again, natural wood finishes don't give me a boner.

I am all into buying a piece of whatever wood you are using and doing trial runs
I did it with barn door and posted them
we all discussed different stains and such, the end result was once I hit the expensive turtle wood, I had it figured out. That in the end was worth the 30 bucks for a test piece.
I remember your test piece for your GOTM win, and how we all discussed the check size, well this is just the same. I actually consider these guys a personal opinion machine because of the collective knowledge here, It is a resource we could never replace.
Like ants, it is the whole that matter, all the mistakes have been made and will come out so you do not have to make them.

good luck

I stand corrected.  The build behind that link does look snazzy, and not muddy as I figured it might.
