I'll soon to be almost cloning this build idea http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=11042.15
but will be going for a rear route and no pick guard and I don't want such a light ( bright ) looking top.

So ... how much tone difference does the top really contribute to the guitar?
I'm thinking of going with a walnut top as opposed to maple.
Walnut is listed in the tone-o-meter zone as slightly less bright than maple.

This will be strung as a nylon string guitar with the graphtech acousti-phonic system and no regular guitar pickups,
and will be for recording direct to a mic pre.

I'm almost sure the neck will be a superwide warmoth padouk fatback with ebony.

I'm interested in hearing any thoughts you might have.

Thanks!

I doubt the walnut top would affect the sound.

Fatback padouk neck will be fantastic!

dont go fat back and super wide, my fatback has a 1-3/4 nut and that has more girth than either of my classical guitars. well maybe not but it feels that wat to me. maybe a round back would be better, dont know?

The only options for a W superwide are fatback and standard thin.

out of the 2 i would go with fat back then, my ibanez is easily a standard thin but if you play traditional classicals then fatback might be closer, i didn't really consider that i hold the neck differently when i wrote that, and that the strings are lighter in tension

Yea.
My old ( 20+ yrs. ) warmoth strat is a standard thin and the build I've been working on for a while is a '59 roundback.
Judging by the '59 roundback and the specs of the fatback I'm not worried.
My hands are big.

Hey, with that graphtech system, does body wood make alot of difference? I was thinking about a steel string strat with that system, but the nylon sounds REALLY good. How long do nylon strings last?

i've only changed them to experiment with different tensions, they will tarnish from your fingers(the wrapped ones) and the frets put little dents in them, other than that i dont know what other players use as a normal interval.. im going on 2 years now
