Yes I know I am trying to finish 2 builds ( and there are others planned), but I have an itch that needs to be scratched. Mary Kaye strat.  I'll bullet ideas / questions

* thinking universal route.  Why? Not sure what pups may go in.  A part of me say Strat SCs, another part P90s. Either way, parchment covers

* thinking Hipshot vibrato.  Have read good things about them. I want a glossy gold ( which the VS 100 doesn't have). I know the Recessed Wilkinson route is best for it, but haven't been able to verify that the Wilkinson stud holes are the right size for the Hipshot studs. Also anyone have experience between their Contoured vs Flat Base models?

* gold pickguard, not anodized, but instead clear plexi back painted gold (think Gretsch guard or search here for Rusty)

* gold Hipshot open locking tuners

* parchment plastics

* neck - I am torn on this between canary/canary vs pau ferro/pau ferro . I wish I could find my Photoshop disc so I could mock this up

Thoughts?

There's a bright gold Wilky, the VG300, if you want to really break the bank; or the VG401, which is much less spendy.

There was a discussion of the latter part on this forum a long while back:

I reckon the Pau Ferro neck would make a much nicer contrast than a Canary one.

Many thanks.

Was familiar with the VS400 (and at Grizzly). Its plate is 91.7 mm wide as the 100 and 300 are 88.8 mm wide. I measured the recessed Wilkinson route and the 'wings' on the 400 are too wide for it to drop into the recessed cavity on a pull up.

Familiar with the 300, but was hoping for solid saddles rather than bent. Sent Gotoh an email to see if 100 saddles will work on a 300.

Going to email Hipshot about their stud and bushing sizes.

I have a Mary Kaye White strat and love it. You pose two interesting neck combinations. On mine I have a maple boatneck with Cocobolo board and chrome hardware. With gold I tend to think Canary/Canary would compliment that greatly and sound good. (I say that as someone who is usually a fan of the idea of matching either Pau Ferro or Wenge with any kind of white guitar body in the aesthetics department)

It depends on what you want to feel over and over every day too.

Can/Can may feel like just an unfinished neck.  A very, very nice one, but it will feel like unfinished wood.

The Pau/Pau neck will be slick & fast, especially if you burnish it even more, and it'll gloss up a bit as you go finer with the process.

Oh, I already have a burnished Canary/Canary neck on my current strat (it is slick and fast). It was mainly a color thought as I can't find my Photoshop disc to install the app. Historically, Mary Kaye strats largely had maple necks, so I have an idea what canary would look like. I was curious as to thoughts of a Pau Ferro/Pau Ferro neck for more contrast.

Actually its ok as I need to finish the Tele build 1st and it will have Pau Ferro/Pau Ferro neck. Later I'll just order the Mary Kaye and lay both necks next to it.
