So I'm supposed to be working on my Master's thesis, which is theoretically due at the end of April. I've only got a few pages done, I have other work coming in, and what am I doing? Browsing the UW forum. Why, oh why, do we do these things to ourselves?  :laughing7:

you're screwed :hello2:

Hooray!  :laughing7:

Actually, I've got a couple of months after the semester in which to submit my thesis, so I'll be ok. Although I'm sure that'll cause all sorts of problems with receiving my diploma, etc.

So yeah, I probably am screwed a litte.

The truth is, once you've got your data collected, a good 3 day weekend with the internet cable unplugged is enough to do most thesis-level data analysis. And if you're in the humanities and don't even need data, cut that in half.  :evil4: Write-up takes two overnighters, revising after adivsor comments another overnighter. I say head over to Kisekae and settle in. Or even play the guitar you have!  :guitaristgif: :guitaristgif:

Seriously, the vast majority of MA thesis time is devoted to procrastination, worry, and figuring out what it is you're supposed to be doing. The actual doing of it is a lot easier than it looks from the outside. If you don't yet know HOW to do what you're doing, get cracking on that part ASAP however.  :icon_thumright:

Do divide and conquer.

Get a list of chapters.  Then an outline.  Figure out the final point of the thesis.  Then nail each chapter one by one.  remove all the extra crap and put it into appendices that support your arguments.

Submit to your supervisor.  Then get a beer.

Thanks for the tips everyone. To be honest, I don't doubt that it'll get done. Most of the work is already done anyway. I'm working on a master's in translation studies, and the translation part is essentially finished. All that's left is to write a 30-page paper on said translation, discussing the author of the text, the text itself, my goals and approach in translating it, and detailing particularly interesting difficulties and how I dealt with them, including the theories that motivated my choices. It's all fascinating stuff, I swear...  :laughing7:

So yeah, a few days of actual writing and I'll be done. But what did I do this evening? Band practice.  :evil4:

This is sooooo true. That's what I've been doing since December.  :tard:

Best of luck getting the Thesis completed. Having not gone that far academically myself, I am envious of people who can do this... :icon_thumright:

I got mine done more or less on time while being heavily involved in a stage production. The most important thing, which no one ever does ;), is to get started right away. What tfarny says is all true: with some good music and solid privacy getting the words down is just a matter of stamina.
My supervisor was very slow to respond and gave nearly useless comments which made everything more difficult so I hope yours is better!

I wrote every paper in college within a four hour window of when it was due. Granted that was just CC, and I dropped out after a semester, but I seem to be able to churn out something that passes for an edited final copy as a rough draft if there is enough pressure.
