Sorry, but drive space is a constant problem with the forum.  And I have no options to move it anytime in the near future.

I've bumped up available space but we will likely have this problem again.

It would be much better if forum members were to take the time to host the files elsewhere and link to them here.

Almost everyone chooses to externally host images on most forums. Many websites offer free services. I use Flickr; some prefer Photobucket, Imageshack, etc.

Upload your photos to the website of choice, grab the URL for the image itself, and post that within an image code in your post.

I also use Photobucket and have never had any problems.
Highly recommended :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

I was about ready to ditch Flickr in favor of Photobucket, but I have too many images there, and almost all are linked, so I paid for another year of pro membership, and I'm stuck with them again. If I were starting fresh, I'd probably go with Photobucket.

Folks, I'm moving this discussion to the GD folder as this pertains to everyone.

UW is limited on server space and I do not have the option of expanding that space or moving the site.  Uploaded files take up a significant amount of the space that is dedicated to the forum.

I would prefer not to disallow any future file uploads, so I need your help in minimizing the amount of files uploaded.  If you have your own account on a site like Flickr, Photobucket, etc.... please upload your files there and imbed links in your posts.

Thanks everyone!

+1, it took me a while to finally start using it, but it is much better than having the attachments.

I just tried to upload to (small) picture and got an error again.

Personally I really like the embedded pictures better than the links.  Most of the time I'm on this forum is during work hours and we have very strict firewalls etc.  Some of the linked pictures I can't get to.  I also like using my iphone to keep up to date on recent posts and jumping to linked photos although not difficult it is a pain.

Did ya read this Jcurl02  :dontknow:

How I read that, is that they DON'T want you to load via the attachments ....

Just use Photobucket or alike ..... it's simple  :icon_biggrin:

Updown, I did read it and the way I took it was that we can still upload small pictures and not a lot of them.  " I would prefer not to disallow any future file uploads, so I need your help in minimizing the amount of files uploaded."  I was trying to do two very small photos.  The way I took it was that if all you want to do is show 1 or 2 small photos, then embed them.  If you want to cronicle your build step by step in hi res, then use the link method.

If it ends up being ONLY links, then I'll probably stop using this forum as I mentioned most of them I haven't been able to get to from my work computer.

May-be your boss has locked something so you can't get to those links while your suppose to be working  :dontknow:

Why would you stop using this forum because of that

Haven't you got a home computer / lap top ?
You must have !!

I'm really not understanding this at all  :sad1:  I need a drink ......

I'm not trying to be difficult.

While at work I'm usually logged into this forum.  I'm on my work computer at least 7 out of 8 hours a day.  When I get a few minutes or two I like to check out the latest posts.  Gives me a mental break.  I usually just pull up the recent posts (great link at the bottom of the page, love it!!!).  I scan through and love getting the pictures.  They keep me motivated to complete mine, think about another etc.  They also let me understand what is being described in the text.  But when there are links, I can't get to them.  I can't get to youtube.  Any place that could possibly have questionable content is blocked.  (Read uploaded pictures, guns, etc.)

I do have a laptop at home but I'm even busier at home.  LIke I said, I spend most of my time on a computer at work, not what I want todo at home.  I build guitars, coaching / playing basketball, restore cars, maintaining a house and family etc.  The times I do go to this page after work hours is usually on my iphone and the links will work but become a bit more difficult to manage.

By the way, I need a drink too :occasion14:

No worries … yep understand  :icon_thumright:

So what your not seeing is when some one posts a direct link to photobucket etc … Arh ha.

Oh well you will always be able to see most of my stuff as I post the IMG image direct into a post.  :icon_biggrin:

Also I remember when I 1st started here that you could attach 4 pic's per post.
Tis only 3 now.
It's something to do with the amount of space they have.
(which is what Wyliee stated)
I'm actually hopeless in the computer world anyway.
But if I was in front of one for work like yourself, I too wouldn't use when at home. (Except for recording)
Life is busy enough.

This is exactly the case.  Over time, the number of attachments and attachment size have both been restricted.

Like I said, the forum is limited by drive capacity and I'm not in a position to expand or move the site.  If necessary, the number of allowed attachments will be further reduced and, if necessary, attachments may ultimately be disallowed.

I was kinda surprised you allowed them in the first place. Not many forums do.
