The "Questions Too Stupid To Deserve Their Own thread" Thread.

updated pictures. the screws are in as far as i'm comfortable trying to screw them in. they're really tight where they are and i'm afraid that trying too hard to screw them in further will just strip them like the last screws. i'm thinking about trying to felt and washer method if i have another contoured heel. plus it looks cool :icon_biggrin:

ok, stupid question time . . . Could crop-circles be the work of a cereal killer?
Honey, are you nuts? uhooh
maybe an early frosted you flake
Some Flake put you up to that
Popped  the question?
awfully corny guy
Cap,n when asking that did it crunch?
Silly rabbit circles are for kids
Shredded that idea sonny
Krispy idea there
Chex off another question

I think this deserves its own thread.

you mean . . . a "Questions too stupid to even be posted in the 'The "Questions Too Stupid To Deserve Their Own thread" thread.' thread"??

Exactement (said with a very French accent).

Whats going on with the heel on that neck?  :icon_scratch: is it a superwide or something?

Thats besides the point. my question is will the stewmac intonatable stop tail bridge ( the like 30 dollar one, im too lazy to check the PN) fit in the 510 rout? I know the spacing for the posts is right but it says it needs 7/16" post holes and the W 510 rout is like .443" I know its splitting hairs but ive had terrible luck so far with bridges.

I'm not trying to be a bitch or anything, but I don't understand your not wanting to look up dimensional information that's critical to the success of your build. You're going to have to do it. I doubt anybody here is going to tell you that some unidentified bridge is going to fit in some vaguely defined hole.

Stewart-MacDonald is good about including mechanical drawings of the bridges they sell, and where they don't, you can usually get that information from the manufacturer. Warmoth also gives dimensional/location data for the bridge routes they cut and holes they drill, and they also often provide mechanical drawings with dimensional information of the bridges they sell.

Gather up all that data, print it out, then sit down with your body and a precise ruler or caliper and compare everything that needs comparing. It's really the only way to get a good answer. If some bit of data doesn't seem to be available, then it's possible somebody else has the part and can measure it for you.

I have done all of that, thats why i had dimensions in my last post...

I just wanted a second opinion as to if .0125 inches is a big deal or not. Its fine though, ill just make dummy plugs and holes.

It's still not clear what you're asking. But, to answer as much as possible, .0125 IS a big deal if you're talking about string gauge. If you're talking about bridge height or tuner spacing or body thickness, then maybe not so much.

For a better answer than that, people need to know what "$30 bridge" you're talking about, which specific bridge are you comparing it to, what specific routing pattern are you talking about, and which dimension is in question? Gotoh makes lotsa bridges, and Warmoth has a variety of routing and drill patterns.

today's stupid Question is a Doozy,

If I have a guitar with an HSH pickup set up, one 500K tone, one 500K volume.

And the pick ups are as follows

Neck: BK Miracle man, (seems to be a metal humbucker biased for melodic cleans... if I'm totally wrong... well... this IS a stupid Question)(Cold Sweat is also of interest,)
Middle: BK Sinner single coil (wailing high end?)
Bridge: BK Nailbomb (definitely Crunchable, but can play clean and warm?)

can i wire a Switch that is basically
Neck
Neck & Middle
Neck & Bridge
Bridge & Middle
Bridge

And possibly just the middle? or all 3 at once?

the way Ibanez sets them up seems silly, but I'm clueless

You can have 5 combinations of your choice using a what they call a "Super Switch", which is a 4 pole 5 throw switch.

Strat_Super_Switch.jpg

Typically, you wire such a thing to get:

1. Bridge
2. Bridge + Middle
3. Middle
4. Middle + Neck
5. Neck

The three missing combos there are

6. Bridge + Neck
7. Bridge + Middle + Neck
8. All off

Of course, the first five selections can be done with a "standard" Strat switch. Using the super switch, you can change the wiring and mix/match to get any 5 of those 8 choices. Or, you can add switches or change the switch style, and gain choices that way. For simplicity's sake I got all 8 choices on my last Strat using three single pole double throw switches instead of the traditional 5 way style switch.

Pickup_Switches.jpg

It's not a new idea, but you don't see it very often. I first saw it on a Strat Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) plays, and thought it was a great idea so I copied it. I've heard of others doing a similar thing, but using three single pole triple throw switches to add coil splitting choices to the list. I think that's a bit much, and coil splitting noiseless or rail pickups is rarely satisfying anyway, so I didn't go that far.

I do need to find some gold mini toggles, though.

I'm a big fan of "simple and effective". Playing around the house, you can do all sorts of things and get away with it. Nobody's watching/listening. But, when you're playing live, you haven't got time to be goofing around trying to adjust multiple switches and pots to change your sound moving from one passage to the next. Sometimes you've only got a quarter note or so to reconfigure, and the tune is depending on you to do it RFN.

What, switches? I don't remember. Might've been Warmoth. Doesn't matter. They're common as dirt. I did get the pickguard from them; I just ordered it without the 3rd hole for the useless second tone pot or the unneeded blade switch, then drilled the holes for the toggles myself.

thats basically just 3 ON/OFF switches right?

meaning I could use buttons... possibly LIT UP buttons...

basically anything Radio shack sells that fits in the Route and has the Proper specs...

*PLANS*

where and how do you find the requirements a switch must pass to be used for a guitar?

because... I really like these...
