The "Questions Too Stupid To Deserve Their Own thread" Thread.

Does anyone have pics of what the heel on an unfinished undrilled neck looks like?

EDIT________________________

I ask this because I heard talk about ones that have a line straight across and ones that have a semi circular flat spot.

Any particular brand? Cuz here's the backside of a Carvin bolt-on neck that hasn't been drilled, finished or had its headstock shaped...

warmoth of course!

I really want my Iceman to feel like an Ibanez... and I need to see how much work this neck joint is going to be.

I thought they had changed over to one less curved.

Have you seen this page? It does show the holes drilled, but I'm not sure how that changes anything. They'll refrain from doing that for $15. I guess I'm not clear on what it is you need to see.

Yes I have, I'm talking about the contour of the neck, right before it meets the wood of the body, there was a thread I cant find that talked about warmoth changing that

and my current idea's involve an undrilled neck and body... for an AANJ.

its really a matter Of frustration. Lefty Drama and all.

but having Warmoth Parts shaped to look like an Ibanez Knock Off seems a safer bet than having one made...

though I have Emailed the guys who seem to be known for building Ibanez Replica's... NOT Shockingly enough they don't deal in a lot of volume.

but looking at the two neck joints... a similar feel seems possible.

I know ETguitars makes Ibanez stuff thats good. but there really isn't a brand rep with that guy.

seems like here you shape the neck LIGHTLY, round the top of the pocket, Drill, Inserts, Ferrules. and it should be done.

Seems my Luthier should be able to handle that.

Can I ask a too stupid to deserve its own thread question here? Are there different types of ferrules or does one size fit all Warmoth string through designs?
If question is disallowed, tell me to feck off and I'll go start a thread.

this should be a stupid Question thread for anyone!

though I imagine no one has as many Stupid questions as I do.

actually, this is a great thread with a lot of info, it should be stickied by a moderator as it holds so much info, each stupid question answered here helps sell more Warmoth product and get guitars built correct.

Exactly, great idea. Now my stupid ferrules question, the luthier helping me wants to know. :icon_scratch:

To answer your question directly - yes, there are different types of ferrules, and one size does not fit all. There are top and bottom ferrules, flush and surface mount, and different diameters involved. If it was me, I'd be buying the ferrules Warmoth sells if you're putting them in a Warmoth body.

Perfect, Thanks Cagey as always. I think I'll call them but I have a feeling that I'm going to have to buy something more to get it up to a minimum order, perhaps a T-shirt.
Cheers

Does that screw REALLY have to stick out that far?

I may have already asked this question.

Since the other three don't, it's a good bet that one doesn't have to. It's possible the neck hole is off location so the screw didn't go in straight, or isn't centered to the neck plate. I have a contoured heel on my mahogany Strat, and all 4 screws are down flush into the neckplate.

Holy Crap.

that fixed so many of My current Warmoth issues!

*Sighs with relief*

I can live with FLUSH screws!

Well, to be fair, I have to say I put threaded inserts in the neck and used some high-quality SS machine screws to attach that neck, so your mileage may vary. In my experience, machine screws are always of a higher quality and consistency than wood screws. Plus, you get a finer thread, so the neck is held on a bit tighter, which is a Good Thing. But, you can certainly do or have the same thing done to yours, so no worries. When you get ready to build, drop me a line and maybe we can work something out so the instrument makes it past here at some point, and I'll install the same things on yours. It's not particularly tough if you have the right tools. You may even be able to find somebody local who's done it before.

haha no, it does not. and it doesn't any longer. what happened here... thats my strat. and the screw got a little stripped while i was trying to get it flush, so i left it sticking out just a little bit so that i could replace it easily if the threads were too bad to get to work with a screw driver (i figured if worst came to worst i could grab it with a pair of pliers). so it's been replaced since, but it does look like hell in that picture. thats for sure

BUT the screws don't sit 100% flush with the neck plate even under the best of circumstances. kind of sucks, but since the screws need to sit in the neck straight and the neck plate is angled on a contoured heel it's a little off. doesn't bother me much, but it's there. i can take a new picture of what they should look like if you want (or there might be a ton around the forum)

EDIT: you can also see my terrible first attempt at ferrules there :icon_biggrin:

Please do! This Neck/Screw thing is driving me mad! I saw someones Gorgeous Tele on here, and his all bulged to. this whole work of art... and the neck plate absolutely drove me nuts.

ok, stupid question time . . . Could crop-circles be the work of a cereal killer?
