Their Loss! I don't know why so many people cant take a joke. But I've never really had a problem with sharp witted acurate humor... that isn't mean spirited.
It also helps that my mindset is like "HAHA! PEOPLE WILL GO WTF IS THAT PURPLE GUITAR SO GLITTERY!"
And not "This Purple guitar, it sees into my soul... it COMPLETES ME."
So... On my end the guitar is already a joke, and thats why I like it.

As much as i love purple, purple metalflake like that is pushing it a bit for me, unless we did a christmas gig :laughing7: :toothy10:
Think that would be main time id use a purple metalflake bass.
Still nice though, but ill stick to my non sparkly purple goodness for now :toothy12:

I agree with your original idea: cover the whole thing with a pickguard - that is an awesome concept!

My reasons to like that idea is... if I wanted to change the guitars color... I just go have a new pickguard routed. In an afternoon I could turn a Purple Swirl Iceman into a Red Glitter Iceman.
Or I can cut a clear one. put a vinyl on the back of it and let the original color of the guitar shine through!
I do worry that a fullface pickguard will be hard to clean. and will age poorly. but it would mean I could top route it without it looking like a Telecaster!

Not directly, but there are primer/sealers that will adhere to it, after which you can apply a pretty wide variety of finishes. The furniture refinishing folks talk about it quite a bit, as there's a lot of old fine furniture that was originally oiled and needs new a new finish. Google "finishing oiled wood" to get a bajillion hits.
