The perfect strat...or at least in my opinion

Ditch the Lace idea and put a good Seymour Duncan bridge pickup in, along with a couple of good Dimarzio Area-series single coils for neck & middle.

My orginal idea was to have the Areas in the neck and middle and an Air Classic in the bridge. But I change my mind about pickups more than most people change their underwear so who knows what the final product will have.

I like the larger headstock. I don't buy into the notion that it adds enough mass to increase the sustain any but I like the fact that its different. It's completly a style thing. But with that being said, I was kicking the idea around some more and figured that a regular strat headstock would probably better fit the overall look of this guitar. But, one day when I'm all growed up and have a my own sign that says Harry Stamper oil on it I'm going to build a guitar with a CBS headstock.

On a side note, lets see who gets my movie quote.

Armageddon?

That's nice stuff. I have a Kingwood over Canary neck that's part of my current favorite guitar.

I have an ebony-over-canary neck on the Hog that I'm quite fond of.  Standard thin contour's nice and comfy.  Stainless frets are the only way to fly.

Maybe it's just me, but I always think it's better to go with your gut instinct. Go with what you think and know is best for you rather than spending money on things that some other person has told you you will prefer. Design by committee isn't a good way to get your one ultimate guitar. It's meant to be your perfect Strat. Go with what you like, what you know, what you want.

People on the internet love spending other peoples' money. People love telling you to buy what they have, or what they would buy if they could afford it. Very rarely, if ever, will you find someone advising you to purchase something because it will actually benefit you and not just because it's what they would want.

Sit down with your current guitars, play them all for a few minutes. Think about how you'd improve each one. Think about what you like best about each one. Mold that into a custom spec and go with that.

Note .... Ace Flibble

So I've been tossing around several ideas for my first build.
I want to see what everyone thinks about the idea and to get any input I can.

The OP ... DID ask for our opinions / ideas thou    :cool01:

Yes, but reading through the thread if OP takes on board these ideas they're going to end up with a completely different guitar to what they initially thought they wanted.

Point is, seeing what other people think is fine but you shouldn't put too much stock in it. Ultimately you're making the guitar for yourself, not for anybody else.

Yep that true  :icon_thumright: .... seen many build something different to what they 1st started out as.

After everyones own ideas are tossed about.

Whose choice is it how a guitar is put together? It's not as if the suggestions or observations carry the rule of law or something, so that whoever asked for opinions ends up with something they don't want. They're perfectly free to do whatever they wanted to do in the first place, accept the opinions/arguments presented and modify their plans, or any mixture in between.

I would say that someone who knows exactly what they want won't be overly influenced by others, particularly those with obviously different tastes.

But if you aren't 100% sure, it might be helpful to get input from others about different options or things you might not have even thought about.

I agree completely.  I'm new to Warmoth and the forums and did my share of scouting posts while I was planning my build.  I largely knew what I wanted and there was little anyone could say to make me change my mind.  My taste may be bad, but it's mine.  :laughing7:  However, there were some details I had no experience with and let the forums influence my choices--namely stainless steel frets and locking tuners.  In both cases I'm glad I did.  I'm just disappointed that I didn't know about them before.

I like talking my ideas out. It helps me finalize my ideas and I get to see what others are doing with their builds. For example, I would have never even considered getting a raw neck. I'm not 100% sold on the idea but it's  at least being thought about.
So again, I appreciate all the input and will gladly accept any and all further suggestions. If the final product is a direct product of this thread is yet to be seen. But I only pretend that I know everything but since I don't I turn to you guys.

:dontknow: if it's been said yet.

SS frets well worth the tiny extra cost  :icon_thumright:
Or
Gold frets if your that way inclined.

If you don't go a Raw neck on the build your thinking of doing.
Make sure you do on the next one  :headbang:

Then I bet you'll say .... why didn't I do this before
