The "I just had an idea" thread.

Maybe they're buying their own output. It's not unheard of. For instance, the Church of Scientology kept L. Ron Hubbard's "Dianetics" on the best seller list for a long time by buying copies of the book by the boatload. As close as anyone can tell, they were just pitching them in the Pacific ocean or Mt. St. Helens. Nobody with two neurons to rub together would take the book seriously.

That doesn't explain concert attendance, though.

If you remove personality from the mix, it makes Bono, Jack White, Ryan Adams, and Alec Baldwin palatable.  I like U2's music.  The 16th note always on the root basslines and a lead player with no dexterity shouldn't work, but it does.  Something hidden in most everyone of their tracks is a "human voice" keyboard carrying the songs of this 3 piece band.  It doesn't take virtuosity to move people.

I don't dislike the body shape, it's that damn headstock. I've seen them with Strat heads and that just looks silly. I don't know what type of head would be good on there. Maybe an Ernie Ball type head would work.

Agreed on the headstock. The Warhead isn't too offensive, though...

Yeah, that's not bad. No way to build a Tele right now though......not while I'm waiting for the VH Frankenstein. Mrs. MULLY would have my danglers.

I wasn't a Tele fan at all until I worked briefly at the turtle house.

After seeing & playing Rob's (Blue Jean Tele), I warmed up to it.  Now, I like Tele's more than Strat's, largely in part due to that I never use a center pickup, and I really dig the pickup sounds on the Tele more than I do the Strat.  His does have 3 pickups though.

Hehe! No doubt. And protecting the danglers is Job One <grin>

I'm not even a Tele fan and that White Chicken is making me drool. That would be a nice companion to my Strat.

I was never a Tele fan until I joined this forum and saw where they could go. Now, I can't get enough of them. I still can't get next to a Tele headstock, but lots of options exist for that so I don't have to suffer.

I remember playing one back when I was still a grasshopper and thinking it was surprising how incredibly good it felt, but it was just so freakin' ugly I couldn't imagine being seen with one. Plus, back then they had a very distinctive sound that you couldn't get away from and was definitely not rock 'n' roll (I didn't learn until years later that Jimmy Page used one extensively). So, for years I said "piss on 'em". But, they eventually invented aftermarket pickups, which solved that problem, and companies like Warmoth made decent finishes and other options available, so now it's not only a viable instrument, it's desirable.

You're missing out if you don't have at least one in your stable.

I second the Warhead shape. I will get around to finishing my 7/8 Tele soon......

The only U2 I like is the first couple of albums, Gloria and such......

I love U2's music, and this is from someone who, well, let's just say I normally find that kind of subject matter preachy.  But yeah, Actung Baby, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, Unforgettable Fire, all awesome.  And I do think The Edge has a good tone.

I like U2..
they are more experimental and progressive than anybody will admit. they always had a unique sound but always re-invented themselves. they never played by the rules and are they only band that can make a two chord song sound great!

I like Beauneau, even though he tried to run me over with his mercedes once.. I think he's a funny little fella, and I don't think he takes himself as seriously as people say.

I also like Bill Bailey! I wish they did some more episodes of Black Books.. or spaced

Fun things is that The Edge himself says it in "It Might Get Loud".  :sign13:

LOL! When my ex saw that part she acted like it was some big secret that had been revealed, it cracked me up!

True, and while other people explored that sound, how often do you hear Michael Brook or Vinnie Reilly on the radio?

You know, for some reason, I thought that was a different Bill Bailey. I can't believe I've watched those shows and thought they were different people.

Is it possible to make a Strat Bass VI?

Baritone neck. Real thick strings, one octave lower. 6 point trem. Change saddles? Drill tuners?

I really dig the [EDIT: *Guitar the* ] singer is playing in this performance. Nylon String, Electric-Acoustic, no soundhole, made for playing through the PA. Can't tell who makes it though. Warmoth wouldn't be able to do something like that would they?

Bass VI essentially IS a strat.  Look at the shape, pickguard, three pup configuration.  Now, what I'm building is a Bass VI Jazzmaster.  Sorta.  Hoping to NOT drill tuners.

NEW IDEA: Just played a fretless bass at a local shop. I'm going to get a body blank, trace out a Rickenbacker style bass body, and get a fretless neck. Yes. This is happening. Also, I've wanted to do a cool DIY dye job, and this new project would be the perfect test bed for it.

And that sounds awesome! Can't wait to see that thing.
