Hello all,

So, Verne Bunsen has been my faithful alter-ego since high school. Which for me goes back about 25 years or so. I was Verne whenever I didn't want to use my real name, so when I started internetting it seemed like a no brainer. It wan't until settling into this particular forum and community that it actually started to feel a bit disingenuous. Not because it isn't my real name, but because unlike most internet "handles" it actually presents itself that way. My real name is Vann Betzel (note the similarities?). I still don't necessarily want to plaster my name on every post, but I don't want to use a false name any more either. So the forum member formerly known as Verne Bunsen is now -VB-. Not sure if anybody else cares, but it's something I wanted to do.

I appreciate and understand the sentiment. However, my constant and nearly uncontrollable urge to resolve acronyms means that from now on, you're gonna be Visual Basic  :laughing7:

I care. Hello VB.

By the way - Vann? That's something I've never heard before. Does it's roots go back to Holland perhaps?

As a middle name (and with one "N") it does. It's often assumed to be my middle name or part of my last name. More than once people have struggled to find me in their files only to find me under V for VanBetzel. As a first name, and with the extra N, I do not know from where it originates. My folks heard it somewhere and liked the sound of it. It's done me well, I gave it to my first son for his middle name. With 2 Ns of course. That oughtta keep 'em confused!

Well, there we go. I must admit I thought Verne Bunsen, has a good ring to it.

It have to agree, wouldn't have kept it so long otherwise, haha!  :toothy12:

VB works fine. I must admit that 'Verne Bunsen' was quite burned into my memory, though. :icon_thumright:

I didn't think you were so old.

I must have reached some threshold recently or something, because it seems as though the world is conspiring make me aware of that lately, haha! If that's in response to the high school reference in the OP, I wasn't going from graduation date necessarily so much as the whole period. For the record...

Yeah, I hemmed and hawed about it for that very reason. It wouldn't be a big deal except that I actually find myself having the occasional direct dealings with folks on this forum and always starting off by explaining that it isn't actually my name just got to feeling, like I said, disingenuous.

Verne Bunsen is burned into my memory as well since he has the only Guitar of the Month which I voted for and it actually won (the George Harrison style Tele).  Every other GOM entrant I've voted for has lost.

That was right when I joined. Thanks for your vote!  :laughing7: My dad has that guitar, I'd be lying if I said I haven't been itching to build myself one, it's a cool axe!

I was only referring to 'since 1854' on the label.
