The Aluminaxx "Vintage Custom" #001

The grooves in the top are form following function of the design of the body with respect to the internal ribbing.

I won't go into the reasoning, since it is my opinion and others have theres as to why it is called "Vintage Aluminum Series" The Custom is representation of the handcrafted accented aluminum pcs made for the instrument. Although this is a production custom guitar, I allow certain assumptions to be made by individuals as to taste of what they deem "custom" or "production"

Forward thinking causes certain mindsets to be altered a bit - and within the context of a new brand of anythings, the term "Vintage" shouldn't offend anything looking at something they think is worthy of purchase. but I am wrong based on your reaction.

I think your product looks absolutely amazing but agree with stub that the name could be better - it's like you just put together the three words that standard manufacturers use for their higher end products. "Custom" is used by a lot of other makers for products that are not all custom - Les Paul Custom, Tele Custom, Custom Shop EC Signature, etc. etc., so fair enough, you might as well call it a custom.

But it's neither classic (yet) nor vintage (not for a long time), that's for sure.

No, the guy is STD Custom.

Well, you can have the name "Gleamo" if you want... just don't sue me later. :toothy12: I actually dislike having to use a modeler that says "59 Bassman" or "68 Plexi" when all I want is for it to sound good - "vintage tone" also means "Hawaii 5-0", "Theme from Green Acres", Big Brother and the Holding Company (poor Janis... :sad1:) etc. I don't want anything vintage, I have enough old junk around here already.

Howzabout you call it the "Interstellar Transporter?" Th "Billet of Doom".... another tried 'n' true method of breaking a guitar is to simply start going to the back doors of concert venues carrying one, and tell the dude "I want to see Joe Bonamassa/Paul Gilbert/Slash/whoever.... it's time-consuming, but that one BIG endorsement is really helpful. There's a jillion guys selling beautiful hand-crafted doodads out there, but I've never heard of anyone recording with a McNaught or Baker or something. Your price is excellent, so far, a good reason to get one early, huh?

yeah. so - aside from hearing it, the only downside from what I gather here is the name of the instrument, I'll take it as an underlying positive that the instrument is good enough looking to make a positive impression - and although this thread wasn't about affirmation of anything, it seemed to have morphed into something of that of sorts. I'll take it for what it is - Thanks for the critiques.

botton line...KILLER axe...call it whatever you want....i do not think it would stop anyone from buying it.

+1 Agreed  :icon_thumright:
However, I would still like to hear some sound clips of this beauty.
It is something I would consider, but not blindly...

No, the guy is STD Custom.

The name STD Custom is a spin off of a neighbor of mine.  He would accenetuate any noun with the words, Turbo, Custom, Deluxe, Limited, 5000, etc.  My neighbor sadi of another neighbor, "What a Turbo Slob."  He was once heard calling the guy on the news a "Boner-Face Deluxe."

Calling a brand new, never before made instrument "vintage" caught me as well.  Hence the question.

I am building a demo guitar with a warmoth Wenge/purpleheart and a padauk/ebony - so we'll see which one gets the better of me.

This demo will of course be fully done up and video'd and sound-byted in the near future and I'll let you guys know so you can tune in.

I shall dub thine axx "Aluminaxx Custom" until I find myself confused when I get more guitars in the lineup and am forced to proclaim it "dude" or something. heh.

Anyways, carry on, gents.

I must say I am Anxious too see your company and grow and anticipate owning a "metal" axe someday.  You have already answered the question about humidy well.  I do have a question about shielding.  Have you done anything special to shield the electronics?  This metal body would appear to to be a giant antenne.  I know other manufacturers do not have thie issue.  It may be a non-issue just wanteding your thoughts.

Also...have you considered the graphite necks?  That would be a case study in stability!

The metal body is not a giant antenna, it's a giant shield.  Those bodies are shielded way better than any wooden guitar.

Guess my logic was backwards...not the 1st time for that. :icon_thumright:

I have my prototype now since end of april. I gig it twice, sometimes 3 times a month and I have it setup series/split/parallel mini-toggles for each separate seymour. no matter the switching combinations I have yet to experience, in any venue played, hum issues of any kind. I was skeptical at first, but I found, as the previous post concluded, this is a giant shield, yes.  I will address this natural "feature" of the aluminum body in the upcoming video (once I finish making the demo guitar)  Also if you have any questions you want answered in the video demo, lemme know. I'll make a list.

Yeah, demo whether or not it's possible to smash this axe.
