Tele Special Pickguard design

pickguardhum.png

That's showing the placement of the humbucker ring. I actually had it a few millimeters off, since I forgot to move the ring higher than where the pickup would go. That's fixed now.

So, I've got to think of how to work with that 8mm of space between the neck and humbucker ring.

Max, I would go for a rear routed body with the controls coming out of the wood instead of a control plate.  I would also use a Gibson type toggle switch positioned either near the controls or at the top front bout.  To me this layout will really go well with your pickguard design.

I like the diagonal.  Its angle matches that of the forward slope of the upper (rear) bout.  It adds continuity, rather than utility to the design.  In other words, it has flair!~

Hey, CB, you're right about it going well with that curve. Maybe I'll adjust the angle so it matches better.

Hmm... actually, that gibson style toggle may not be a bad idea. It will be on the control plate, though. I'm planning on having some fancy switching on this guitar, and the 3 way switch will give me more room.

This is making me think I can fit all the options I need in the control panel.

Mine should have:
3 way switch, vol, tone, phase, humbucker split (north OR south coil), series/parallel.
That should cover about everything.

So, who can recommend some places that fabricate custom pickguards?
I've sent pickguardian a message regarding cost.

That's my diagram Max, your stealing it.  :blob7:

No, I'm not. I'm sharing it :P
It's just hotlinked, which is often just as bad as stealing, since it steals bandwidth but doesn't generate traffic.

I'm not sure if I'm going that route, or using a gibson style toggle, really. I should probably play with a toggle-equipped guitar for a while, and see which I like.

For Rat's nest wiring, I would go for back routed control cavity but still have a Tele control plate for cosmetics.

Have you thought about getting one of those plates with just the blade switch cut, but no pot holes so you can do you own?
I was thinking about having Taipan Tone make the plate.

I'm thinking I should go for a different wiring scheme. A push pull pot for series/parallel instead of the toggle. It would make this easier.
