Hey - just got the stu-mac catalog.  They have a new wacky addition:

Golden_Age_Knotty_Pine_Body_for_Tele_sm.jpg

More info here:

That looks really gross and trashy to me, but I suppose some people like the vibe.
I'd rather have a plain piece of pine with a little bit of character.

Hey man, it goes with the funky clock:

Yeah, that's a "going to grandma's house" clock. Or, a "fine piece of craftsmanship that would look great in my home." Depending on how old you are.

Funny you say that.  Mrs. STDC was walking in with mail and said, "look honey, Stew Mac sells bodies too." She turned right to that knotty pine body and said, "that looks like @#$%"

It is gross.  Even if you add the upper cutaway and tummy cut it's still pretty ugly

I'm not  a big fan of the knotty stuff but they also have some clear pine that looks pretty nice.

i don't know about that telecaster but i'd be tempted to strap a warmoth neck and some hardware onto that clock.

I like the diagonal cut for the pup toggle.

What's the word on pine for guitar bodies? I've barely heard anything about it. Positives, negatives?

The main negative is the body wood is soft, and has to be finished carefully in order to be protected.

It's wood, though: you can get pieces that have great tone, and some that just thud.  It certainly can work for a guitar body - search "pinecaster" on this forum and there's quite a few on here.

You can also check out TDPRI.com, which is where the real telecaster enthusiasts call home.  Search on "pinecaster" there.

I've been itching to build a pine Tele for a while now, but something always gets in the way. Like rent, bills or groceries.

I can't see a big piece of Pine like that remaining stable. for the look it maybe better to have pine laminate exterior, or a light wood like poplar or ash....even alder
