Rethinking the relic part at the moment

i think i would be too. that body is way too nice to thrash around! BUT i think a little relic-ing could look really cool. some light wear would be amazing, but maybe not the ridiculously weathered look from the mock-up

+1 to Apriori Mark.

I can't relate to the relic'd look, even if it's all DIY.  Guitars should start off looking new, and earn their scars in battle, not on the workbench.

Opinions to the contrary will be cheerfully ignored - I ain't lookin' for a fight.  I just think that greenburst will look much better battleworn than purposefully trashed.

Looks like Tonar is doing that treble-side horn in the vintage way, with no color. I was so confused the first time I saw a tele like that :laughing7:

Yeah, lol.  That weirded me out too.

i've never owned a guitar with relicing, but i do think it can look amazing. maybe a little "natural" relicing. as in not leaving it in it's case and setting it on a stand instead of very carefully putting it in a secure hardcase.

but honestly this thing is going to kickass no matter what you do to it :icon_biggrin: can we get pictures of the neck, or is it all top secret until it's assembled?

First time I noticed that technique.

The neck a typical maple neck w/ indian rosewood and cream dots. Fender decal with my goofy signature on the back, it's been on something else lately. Tonar did the nitro finish on that, has an Earvana and Schallers. Not vintage spec by any stretch but looks okay.

The only downside of that particular neck is that I had him do it in a non-yellowing nitro. It can be replaced later on but I think I'll just live with it and see how it works out, it's about a year old and plays very well on another guitar (plus the cream dots should match up nicely).

I've decided against the relic. It's a little too poser-ish for me really, but I agree with the idea of not babying it along the way either. Won't be case-kept or anything like that

Congratulations!  Nice job.  Looks pretty dang unique.  Looking forward to clips, yes?

I'm not done setting up yet, maybe later on. Swapping out the nut and some other stuff has to happen.

Body specs: Very light alder body, Tonar finish, two knobs, Texas specials. Parchment covers, controls.
Neck specs: Warmoth Pro, Maple + Indian rosewood, 9.5" radius. 6100 frets. Gotoh hardware.

Other than the two knobs & color scheme it's a pretty vanilla Strat. Put a couple small dings in it already, it's been fighting me pretty good and apparently trying to relic itself. Chipped a little finish near the neck pocket, slipped with the drill putting in pickguard screws (twice), and broke off half a screw in the headstock while over-tightening the string retainer.  Left the screw there for tone, obviously. Made a mess of drilling the holes for the pots too, but it all worked out in the end. The tuners were probably the only thing that went smoothly.

Yeah I usually think Dragonburst is one of the worst finishes ever concieved, but that actually makes it look really nice. Bravo, that's a nice axe.

Come on now, Dragon Burst looks great on Black Korina too.

Yeah it definitely does look good on BK. Volition's LP came out pretty sick with the orange streaks and all.
