Spray Laquer in a can from stewmac? bad.com or ok to use?

I did a quick search of these boards to see if it had been discussed before but didn't see anything right off.  Is this stuff reasonable to use or is it generally crap?  I'm not sure if I want to buy a full-on spray setup as I'm not sure I'll ever do this again.

Thanks for any advice.

I've used it once, it's fine. But if you're only shooting clear, get the Deft from home depot - same exact results, 1/3 the price and no shipping.

:icon_thumright: +1 Available at most Ace Hardware stores as well...

Deft... good stuff.  Also the Cabot lacquer available at Lowe's.  Also the (ahem) Duplicolor automotive clear coat, available at auto parts places (read the can and make sure you get the lacquer one).

I asked this in another thread but it seems to be relevant here too,

Will this work for a solid Basswood body?
aerosol shellac sealer/lacquer  (2 coats)
aerosol White Spray paint (just enough to make the guitar solid white)
aerosol deft brand clear gloss lacquer (several coats)

I want to achieve a true white gloss finish with no yellowing.
Thanks in advance for your feed back.

What I'd do there -

Get the basswood level with whatever grain filler you plan on using.
Seal the wood with shellac (Zinsser from Home Depot, in the aerosol)
Use grey primer from Duplicolor
Level the primer out with 400 paper and a sanding block
Use Duplicolor white car paint
Dont level that
Use three coats or even four, of Duplicolor clear
Level that with 600 paper wet, and buff it out with compound (turtle wax white is good there)

Done.

Those car lacquers are perfecto for guitars - Leo had it right.  They're tough as nails, and the modern stuff wont yellow like the old stuff would.

Hey CB, is that Duplicolor the one in the BLUE can, or the Van, Truck kind?  I bought 1 blue can in case I ran out of Stew Mac's Nitro, but if it's as good as you say, I may just get another can and use that as well.

I think it was just the car stuff.... clearcoat.  I can check this weekend and see - the cans not here right now.

I have eused both Deft and the stewmac...both easy to use.  I have heard deft is a little mosre resistant to crackle and yellowing.

deft will blush easier if sprayed on too think but it will fade as it dries.

as always...wear a mask when spraying.

I think I am going to return the deft and white spray paint an go the duplicolor route that CB suggested.
Thanks

I really dont want to sand this thing down again.
I just wanna rock out ASAP
