Splitting humbuckers with an arcade style button?

Ive found that the sound certain humbuckers make when split is usefull. Ive tried playing guitars that have mini switches and push pull pots to split humbuckers and it has always seemed cumbersome, to me at least.

I read about arcade style killswitches that are the right size and would be easy to push real quick while your playing to split a humbucker while not being in the way. Only problem is that the arcade style switches that ive found are only momentary switches and I dont even know if wiring them to split a humbucker is possible. I would like to find an arcade style button switch that you would push and let go of the switch and it would split the humbucker, then push and let go of the button to go back to full humbucking mode. Ive seen something sort of like it in the Suhr Guthrie Govan signature model blower button, but it just goes to the bridge pickup in full without a cap or anything and the button seems kind of small. I was wondering if any of you had tried this and or if know where to source a push push on-off arcade style switch.

I usually end up smacking the volume knob on a strat when I strum and turn down the volume on accident so I usually just reposition the volume knob on a normal strat and get rid of one of the tone knobs. I was thinking that it would be about the perfect place for a button coil splitter that could be easily accessed quickly, and since it is so low to the body I would not hit it on accident. Im hoping it would look something like this but with a arcade style button to split the neck and bridge humbuckers at the same time instead of a black metal volume knob that i used to represent an arcade style button.

Here are some red arcade style killswitches on a Gibson Buckethead signature les paul that look like they would be the perfect size for the job, though they are only momentary switches.

Few things in the electronics world come in as many shapes, sizes, and functions as switches. There must be millions of them. Because of that, you're probably going to want to check with one of the larger distributors of electronics parts, such as Allied Electronics. They have over 5500 of them in stock, and you can start perusing them at the link.

well there are push/push pots and i'm sure there are buttons that are similar. the switch in the pots has a similar mechanism to foot pedal switches but are not very hard to push at all.

edit; on a quick search i found this. http://www.mouser.com/Search/CompareProducts.aspx  http://www.bulgin.co.uk/Products/Switches/documents/16mmStainlessSwitch.pdf

it even has an illuminated ring for maximum stage effect, add a battery and never forget what position you are in.

Lizard Lick, NC. Actually Lizard Lick Towing is in Wendell, not Lizard Lick. Always nice to see your home state represented so well on TV  :tard:

Wendell is in the county next to mine. Trust me, most people aren't like that here.

you could try to find a smaller single pole switch like what they use for lighting. Ik it may not be what you want but it might help

I believe pretty much anything like that is going to be momentary. I only know of one push/push pot that was around and then were notoriously prone to breaking and were discontinued.
edit- Warmoth actually sells a push/push which does look a little beefier than the one i was referring too.

I know there is a switch out there that will do that because it's just a latching push button switch.  It's kind of like a guitar push-push switch.  Cagey's right, if anybody would have it, it would be Allied Electronics.  Any basic Arcade button will be momentary(with 2 contacts) because thats their application in a game.  You just have to find a real switch that looks like an arcade button.  Double Pole Double Throw might make finding it a little tricky.  Worse case you could swap the arcade button top with the latching switch if possible. :dontknow:

Take a look at the DPDT switch fender uses on the 2010 American Deluxes (and some others): http://www.darrenriley.com/shop/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=1994 .  I'm using one on my current warmoth build as a passing lane switch just like they do on the american deluxe hss but you could use it for anything.  You can see the switch on a guitar here: http://www.fender.com/products/americandeluxe/models.php?prodNo=011910 .  It is smaller than an arcade button but their pretty easy to hit in my experience.

if there is enough room you could always use a momentary switch with a micro latching relay. you may need a battery to operate the relay though

maybe stainless steel isn't you thing i dunno but there are other electrical suppliers that may carry a red one. there doesn't seem to be a standard name for these, mouser has a ton of switches that are labled latching, locking push-push, and other variationssome of whitch are hard to tell if they are momentary of not. im sure what you need is in there or at some other electrical supplier
