Hey folks,

I was just curious if anyone has used these Sperzel Open Back Sound Lok Tuners.  I was thinking about giving them a try on my strat build.
I have Schaller locking tuners on my other two strats.  I like them and have had good luck with them, but I get tired of cranking down on the lock knobs.
These Sperzels seem to lock the strings through a series of bends of the string and notches in the post.

Does anybody have any thoughts or feedback on these tuners.

Thanks for your thoughts &  :rock-on:

I've used the Sperzel tuners on my 12 string.

overall, not impressed.  The strings are supposed to lock, but they don't.  I found that the upper strings slip through the hole in the peg body and the locking abilities are, er, not really as advertised.

Those gotoh tuners look really wacky though!

Hey Trevor,
Thanks for the feedback.  That is sort of what I suspected.  I did not see how those narrow gauge strings would be locked in those slots.
I guess I will be sticking with the Schallers.  Glad I found out before I bought a pair and had my neck drilled for the wrong size tuners.

Those Gotch tuners are wacky indeed...  I would still like to hear about them if anyone has used them.  Just don't look like they have enough beef.

those gotoh stealth tuners are AWESOME! where can i buy some? i think they'd be perfect for my next project. i thought the SG38's would be good since they're fairly light, but i know these have to be lighter. can't find them for sale anywhere though... why are new guitar parts so hard to find sometimes? :help:

Looks like at this time they are primarily sold in Japan.  I did find one site in Australia that has them, but I think they order them in from Japan.
Be patient and persistent; they will eventually make it to the U.S.A.

haha was thinking the same thing. if i decide i absolutely need them i'll PM him and see what he says. if it would be super inconvenient i wouldn't bother him, but he seems like a helpful guy!

stealth tuners! these took a little bit of searching to find. who knew i should have just started on allparts' website?

expensive as hell though.

EDIT: after looking around i think the stealth tuners would be about 71 grams for 6, while the sg38s would be about 200 grams for 6. pretty damn good i think. although still expensive...

Yeah, they're not cheap, and because the bushings are slightly smaller than on the vintage/Kluson styles, you'd have to get Warmoth to drill custom holes.

are they? thats what i thought the ferrule-looking thing was for; to help the tuner fit into holes reamed for regular gotoh tuners. if they won't fit regular gotoh holes then i guess i'm not interested :sad1:

11/32"-diameter pegholes are required to press-fit the peghead bushings for the vintage/Kluson style tuners.

The specs for the Stealth tuners show an 8mm bushing diameter. Which, now that I think about it, is only slightly smaller than 11/32", and might actually fit perfectly without having to ream any finish from the pegholes.
