Something we'll only see once..

We see it every 100 years.

10/11/12 could be 10/11/1912 or 10/11/2112.
Yes I'm aware it comes around every 100 yrs. But "we" = you, me, everyone else alive today at this moment will only see it once... :icon_biggrin:

It's November 10th for some people, depending on whether it's common in your country to do mm/dd/yy, or dd/mm/yy.

Well here in the US. it's Oct. I could really care less about the rest of the world, only our military does dd/mm/yy

The rest of the world tends to get it right most of the time. Who ever heard of this silly Imperial system, for instance? It makes no sense. Likewise, mm/dd/yy is backwards. Should go from shortest to longest interval of time.

That's why we broke away from the British, we wanted things our own way. We have our own money, measurements, side of the road to drive on, side of the car to put the steering wheel. It was like Burger King, we have it our way.. The reason the rest of the world does it differently from the US is because they were too laZy to develop a system of their own. :dontknow:

I have nothing against the British, but it is obvious of all the territories the British had control of as they adopted their ways..

Foot is an English measurement denoting the length of the King's foot.  It changed with every election.
Why sure, there's a lot of words borrowed across all languages. :icon_biggrin:

Ya gotta believe that somewhere in the distant mists there was a highly influential & powerful family or genetic cult-like bunch with six toes on each foot and six fingers on each hand that got us rolling on this whole 12 months/12 disciples/zodiac signs/Jaguar cylinders thing*... you just GOT to.

*(probably right up til the fishwives did the whole pitchfork-torch 'n' witchcraft  thing on them and drove them underground... never trust anybody who never wears sandals.... :o)

Doug, you didn't break away from the British and then start using Imperial measurements! Ever wondered [urlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_units]why it's called "imperial"[/url]? You broke away from the British, carried on doing things the British way, and then us Brits changed to metric (kind of - ask a Brit how tall he is and he'll likely give it in feet and inches). You're more traditionally British than we are!

As for mm/dd/yy - it's just illogical. It's unjustifiable other than with "that's just how I like it, OK?" which is what a kid says when you point out they're doing something a silly way.

It's like writing the number one hundred and twenty three as 132.

I actually like the Japanese way of doing the date: yyyy-mm-dd. That seems to make the most sense to me, the most significant at the start, the same way we write numbers. So today is 2012-10-12. I use that format a lot at work where you don't know what nationality people are going to be who read stuff, and you know they'll understand it. Or when sending it to a computer, to be unambiguous, I might use 2012-Oct-12.

As long as I get to see the sun come up and go down, it's a great day. :hello2: :blob7:
I don't really give a diddle what number someone thinks it is.

Assuming one does write one's dates that way, wouldn't that mean there was a 9/10/11 last year, an 8/9/10 the year before that, and so on?

What a bunch of killjoys we are.
