Softy

The neck feels kinda "fuller" in my hands. Very comfortable, much different than standard thin. Also, the contour heel truly makes a difference.

I wish I knew all this when I ordered my previous guitar, but at least I know what to do for the next ones. I might try another tremolo and will certainly go for transparent turquoise satin swamp ash body. And, while not sure yet, I might try a 24" neck. Anyway, that's many years away unless I get so much money xD

Thanks. I will try something with more to it next time.

I contoured the heel on my last one. It's amazing how much difference 1/4" of wood can make.

Yeah, it amazes me how it's not a default option in any guitar  :dontknow: It can only make it better!

It's not compatible with some necks and if you don't play on the highest frets often then you may as well save the hassle, cost, and get yourself a little extra wood mass by sticking to a regular heel. Plus some people prefer to contour the neck themselves; Warmoth's method of dipping one corner is the least-effective way to contour a heel. Carving off the leading corner (Fender's method) is better and both carving the corner and dipping the whole heel (ESP and Schecter's method) is, obviously, even more effective.

There are several body styles I'd like to pick up for myself if the contoured heel wasn't mandatory on them, but alas, I've asked Warmoth and it seems once they've decided to make a contour mandatory it is mandatory.

Still, nice guitar. Definitely liking the satin finishes these days; when Warmoth started them they seemed like they just weren't bothering to buff the regular finish, but it does seem they've got a good proper satin finish now. I do expect, like Bagman says, they've moved to a 2K finish. It's pretty much the only clear coat that can actually stay matte or satin. I hope they start to use it on necks, too, though it is a lot more work to get off the frets afterward.

It's possible. You just have to ask.  :icon_thumright:
