Smaller tube amp?

hard to say....

there are some really good small amp designs out there though.

I had once figured out, and drawn plans for a really small amp that used a pair 12AX7s and 4 12AT7's.... driven push pull parallel into a Hammond output transformer.    Two gain stages, full long tail pair, and four output tubes, giving abuot 1 watt total output.

There's also the micro-amp tube amp out there... very good tones, but pricey.

I have a Tiny Terror - I bought one of the first batch of Korean made prototypes. It is incredible. I play it through a 4 x 12" cab and it is very very loud. It has a great clean tone and super distortion when wound up. It is good for recording at lower sound levels as well. My only complaint is that it has a very dry sound and has no effects loop. I have got round this by using a reverb in front when playing clean or when playing dirty I mike it through the PA and add reverb at that stage.

I would love to be able to afford a "grown up" Orange tube amp as well.

I can recommend the Tiny Terror - it's the best !!!

I've got the 5 watt head; initial shipments of the 15 watter start 15 Aug 2008, but if you don't have a pre-order in, there's enough in the queue to eat up all the first shipments.

While perfectly OK as they come, they'll sound even better with upgraded tubes over the no-name Chinese ones that come in them; see thread on the 5 watter here:
