Hi there,

This is my Gecko, hope you like it...

The facts:
Gecko "small" swamp ash body with Hipshot A style bridge and EMG-40TW pickups (wired to 18V). The neck is wenge/bubinga with ebony fretboard, jet black ebony peghead veneer, Gotoh machine heads and Warwick Just-a-nut II. The body has coloured oil finish, the neck is raw. The controls are vol/vol/p.tone, each volume is push/pull for coil-splitting. Strung with DR HIBeam 45-130.
The sound:
I always liked Warwick basses, the feel and sound of exotic woods. Due to the similar woods the Gecko has thoose punchy mids but it's more balanced and controlable. The 35" scale really  helps the low B string. One of the best sounding basses I've ever played.
You can find the pics here: http://internet.interneteurope.eu/~alosnhu1/gecko/gecko.html

Great looking bass-- I think it would be difficult to make geckos look bad. They're such beautifully designed monsters. That fingerboard truly looks like a dream. Like playing on clouds or something  :hello2:

While browsing around the web, I came across this:

 that thing is somethin else.....i love the finish on that body!!  i wish i played bass enough to justify making one of those geckos.. or at least somebody trying to buy one just so i'd have an excuse and the funds....

Hi there,

This is a recent picture of my bass with it's fretless sister. The EMG TWs are changed to DCs, the chrome knobs to wenge wood knobs and the Warwick Just-a-Nut II to J-a-N I (brass). I've also replaced the deep panel Switchcraft jack, because it was very loose. I've installed a Neutrik locking jack. Soon I'll take some new pictures of each bass with a proper camera and lighting.

Sweet!!!

I always find it odd that if you have a single pickup it's pushed further up the body than on the double pickup versions. Any diff in sound because of this?

They sound totally different. Think of it as a Musicman and a Jazz Bass with a soloed bridge pickup. Pickup placement is one of the most important ingredient of tone.

Very beautiful basses there Oden....... :icon_thumright: I wish the guitar necks had heels cut this close, never have understood why so many manufacturers leave such big heels on guitar necks. Considering the fact that guitar players tend to play more in the upper register than bass players..

I made some new pics of the bass. Here they are with some comments.

Body front:

Body back. I will replace the plastic cavity cover with an ash cover finished to match the body.

Headstock. The Warwick just-a-nut II (teflon) didn't matched the fingerboard radius. I replaced it with a brass just-a-nut I. Now the string height is adjutable for each string separately and open notes sounds like the fretted ones. The chrome Warmoth decal looks very classy!  :glasses9:

Some new features :laughing7: The Neutrik locking jack, the gabon ebony knobs (they will be sanded for a smoother satin look) and one of the two EMG-40DCs.
