I've been working on slide. I raised the action of my firebird - just like Johnny (Winter) says to do. Makes a big difference. Just got home from work at 9:30. Hard day and I listened to this for the first time in a long while and it kicked my butt. If you haven't heard him from the 70's feast your ears (unfortunately not your eyes as it's only an audio - but great nonetheless in my humble) and fasten your seat belt. Love that white firebird.

I am a long time Johnny Winter fan.  I have been jammin' with him since the early seventies.  The man just flippin rocks that blues firebird  :headbang1:
I have seen him in concert about ten times and he never fails to please.  Unfortunately, his current health is of great concern.
He was a long time heroin addict and it really took a toll on his body.  The last time I saw him, about one year ago, he just sat in a chair the whole show and rocked his heart out.

If you are a real Johnny fan, there are two Johnny Winter instructional DVD's that are great:

Johnny Winter - Legendary Licks Guitar - 2 DVD Set

Johnny Winter Legendary Licks Slide Guitar - 2 DVD Set

He personally walks you through all of the songs and shows you all his tricks of the trade.  Great instructional DVD's

Keep on rockin' Johnny...

I seen him a couple years ago live at the ROT Rally in Austin. He could barely walk, they had to help him to the stage, and he sat in a chair the whole time, but he still played the snot outta his Firebird... :guitarplayer2:

It's a shame what age and hard driving living does. I saw some video of him at Crossroads and he looked in bad shape.
Black dog thanks for the DVD suggestions. I'm ordering them. Johnny was my first big influence followed by Jimmy Page and Keith Richards - yes I know very very different. From a pure just "tear it up" standpoint it's hard to beat the 70s JW. Here's another, probably one of my all time favorite Johnny songs. It's funny because part of the way into ti it is interrupted by a German announcer. But it's still him playing a great song and Floyd Radford ain't bad either.

Yeah Johnny Winter really is one of the great blues slide players of all time. Pity about his health. He is only 66 years old, but he looks more like 100.

Then there's these two clowns:

Damn man, two of the best slide performances I've heard - great stuff!
Jeff Beck's performance at Ronnie Scott's has to be one of the best overall guitar performances in history. Very bold statement, but I believe it. I remember listening to Blow by Blow when I was a teenager in Arkansas (probably 1974). Blew me away (still does).
