did you use white stain which sits in the grain?
However, this is not a "dog-hair" type finish where any stain has been used.
As outlined in the first post of the thread and title it is a "Shou Sugi Ban" type of finish. Shou Sugi Ban is a Japanese technique of burning wood to achieve a type of finish. In this case, it is just an ash body, ,that has been charred with a blowtorch, and then a wire brush is used to expose some of the unburned ash underneath. The rest of the process is as detailed above. There are no stains or colours used.
If you are looking to use contrasting colours, search for "dog-hair" or ceruse finish.
