Shou Sugi Ban for guitar?

Does anybody of you use Shou Sugi Ban for their guitar finish? It looks really cool, but I'm curious about the sound. I'm planning to buy products from https://degmeda.eu/ and my craftsmen will do all the job. Do you think I should invest in it, or I should keep money for new strings?  :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:

I've seen them do this in Japan to waterproof cedar planked houses.  I think if you poke around on this website you'll see some examples.  Sound? won't change a thing (imho) as it's only just the surface.  Some woods will be more amenable to this, like oak, maple or swamp ash.  Others it would be a waste, like mahogany or alder due to the grain patterns.

If you go this route, and you have a body configured for a flat-mount Strat or Tele bridge, I would install a bridge before charring the wood as a mask.  That way you are assured of having a flat, even surface to mount the bridge on when the shou-sugi-ban finishing is done.

Well, there's this thread:
