Shipping woes?

So I've seen a few rants from other forums complaining about warmoth, but I haven't seen anything from them to sway me.

I am concerned about UPS however and I've heard of a few shipping problems.  I've just spent ALOT of money ordering my parts which are going to take quite some time to make as they are custom builds.

I really would hate to open my boxes only to have horrible gashes or god forbid a broken headstock because of crappy shipping.


Any opinions on this?

Hi I've had many a Body & Neck boxes delivered here to Sydney, Australia via UPS.  :icon_biggrin:
All Warmoth packages have arrived in perfect shape  :icon_thumright:
All well Packed  :icon_thumright:
All on Time  :icon_thumright:
All Safe  :cool01:
Here within a couple of days, with tracking # & never, ever had any damage to or anything done to any of the boxes.

The delivery driver must know me now too, as he'll walk around the back of my house, early in the morning
& leave my goodies right at the back door.  :laughing7:
Which is perfect, as my bedroom is right next to the back door.  :toothy10:

No problems here on UPS posting.

:sign13: A tip …. Take photos of ANY Damaged boxes on arrival. (if it dose come like that)
Or don't sign for damaged goods, before inspecting it.

I've bought many a thing from around the glob & never had any drama's.

have recieved 5 packages from the turtle, all nicely packaged and no issues at all.

6 bodies and 8 necks and all have been fine. 2 of the neck packages were beat to heck, but there was no damage to the neck. Also, my newest neck arrived last week, and it is in a new tri-angular box. It seems more sturdy than the old boxes they used.

I have had, er, 11 necks and, um, 9 bodies made by Warmoth and shipped to me via UPS to my home in Canada.

Everything arrived in perfect shape and on time.

I have had one strat body, and one telecaster body shipped to me from other suppliers.  Both of these were damaged on delivery (scratched finish on the strat, imperfections on the tele).  Can't remember if they were on time - I think the strat body was late actually.

In my experience, which is more than just a one or two pieces, Warmoth has the best packaging and shipping.  They also have the best product, but you knew that already.

You won't need to worry.

I think that UPS problems are largely due to poor packaging in the first place.  I have had stuff from other places shipped this way, but things were not adequately secured in the boxes.  Paint was chipped, rack ears bent, boxes damaged, and so on.  But in those cases, the padding in the boxes was not enough so things moved in the boxes.  Warmoth has some interesting looking boxes, but the fact is they hold things very securely in place.  Of the five projects from them I have received, none of them were damaged in any way.  I think it is because they do take care in packaging, and this makes it much more difficult to damage things in transit.  Good luck on the project, the starting materials are top notch.

The boxes that Warmoth uses for shipping are approved and certified by UPS.  Be aware that thousands and thousands of necks and bodies have been shipped around the world using the same packaging.  With that said, there is no absolute, iron clad, guarantee that every shipment, everywhere will always arrive in pristine condition.  Even the best packaging will not withstand getting speared by a forklift, run over by a truck, etc.....  Accidents do happen, but are rare.  As with any shipment, inspect the goods and contact the vendor if there are any problems.

5 necks and 5 bodies (one even received two times) without any problems. I am in Denmark.

One thing to remember is that Warmoth ultimately has no control over the package once it leaves their hands. Regardless if it's wrapped in a paper bag or in a wood crate, UPS will be responsible for any damage incurred during shipment.. :dontknow:

While I agree with you on this, Doug, the level of care in which the package is constructed/designed to avoid harm has a correlation with whether it makes it to where it is going without incident.  The Warmoth packaging is superb, and I think it contributes to the high success rate of happy customers.  Along with absurdly beautiful products at a price that is hard to beat...

Seriously, though... your learning experiences are tremendously valuable to us all, RB, especially because you are so candid in your sharing of them.

Also, I've received two necks and a body from Warmoth via UPS, with no problems.

Well, the whole point of full disclosure is to help anyone else avoid my mistakes. Here's a quick rundown:

• Be gentle when you think you need to go hard.
• Go hard when you think you need to be gentle and gentle isn't getting it done, but don't force anything with less than 50% of its height in a hole.
• Don't assume someone else can do it better than you, just because they have experience.
• At least if YOU eff up your guitar, it's your guitar to eff up and it feels a lot better than when someone else effs it up for you.
• Ask lots of questions and annoy Bagman. :icon_biggrin:

My last band went defunct in April, but a friend and I have been recording and are trying to recruit a bassist and lead guitarist. So, I may be back behind the tubs, on stage, again soon. I'd be happy to (try and) entertain your kith and kin.  ccasion14:

I might even bite the bullet and do one of the NY Guitar School cover-band things where four strangers are thrown together, devise a set-list, learn and rehearse the songs, perform and, a la Fleetwood Mac, go their own ways. Just so I can get back in front of a crowd again.

There having been UPS issues posted on the site.  One that comes to mind was rosewood bass neck purchased from the showcase.  There was a customer service issue because Warmoth just wanted to replace the showcase value of the neck rather than build an exact replacement for the showcase price, which couldn't be done.
 
However, lurking on other forums, they have just as many shipping issues with UPS.  But the odds are still in your favor of arriving in one piece.  Warmoth, or anybody that ships, is in business to turn a profit, as is UPS.  They can't do that if the stuff gets there damaged.

'Never had a problem with UPS (although we do live in an imperfect world, and accidents do happen), and my Soloist body arrived from Warmoth in absolute perfect condition.

I know of an Explorer neck that went to Australia that got banged up, but there's more involved in an international ship than domestic, if that's what the OPs question is after.
