hi,
if i want to finish my guitar using an oil stain, then grain fill with clear and apply polyurathane clear gloss (with a spray can), which sanding sealer do i need?

shellac or vynil ?
both of them are easly available here, just don`t know which one is compatible with the other products i will use.

thanks a lot

What sealer does you finish product call for.  They usually make a recommendation on the can.  If not, shellac is a great sealer, it has good intercoat adhesion and will lock in any contaminates that might be on the surface.

Vinyl sealer will work fine but you tend to get more grain raise with it.

Is the oil stain compatible with the poly?  Thats the big question.  If you grain fill over the stain, and touch up what needs to be when you sand back... you might just find that you dont need a sealer.  Find the sealer the poly manufacturer suggests.

Generally - shellac will work under latex, poly, and nitro just fine.  Its alcohol based, but even nitro lacquer over it doesn't cause issues.  It does not bubble and craze.  And two coats of shellac is a very effective barrier - as a sealer.  When in doubt, and when sanding back, give it a third coat.  But... check what the poly folks suggest too.
