Set up suggestions

After a week of having 11's on the guitar, and before I did a reverse shim, I decided to put some 10's back on. The guitar really comes alive and the buzzing in the first 5 frets was minimal. The action seems to have heightened slightly. A lot of differences of opinions from several techs v's Warmoth which has been frustrating, but for now I will keep it as is ( sans shim ). I'll leave it for a few months and see how it goes.

Many thanks for all your input. I really appreciate the advice and support !

Cheers

The reply from Warmoth was to have my tech install a shim in the neck pocket.  Have him place the shim at the top of the neck pocket, this will angle the neck so that you have slightly higher action at the first 5 frets.

I'm on to it  !

Sorry for asking - but what would a shim in the neck pocket do for the relief of the neck, and how would a shim correct the action at the first five frets due to a neck that was "too straight".... :dontknow:

My question(s) exactly, but I'm not going to stand in the way of Warmoth's suggestions.

A shim at the top of the neck pocket moves the nut up with respect to the plane of the top of the guitar - making action over the entire fretboard higher, which also includes the first five frets.

Right, all the frets, not just the first five. It also does nothing to correct neck relief.

Someone on here had this question and problem some time ago, and someone recommended bridging the neck from the heel to behind the nut and give er a light but firm shove down at the 12th fret,

He said he heard a pop, and that after that the neck responded to truss rod adjustments,

The general consensus was that there was glue in the truss rod channel or something along those lines.

Anyway, this is what I would do, good luck

I spoke to a tech the other day, and he said he did the exact same thing to quite a few Warmoths ?
