Safety Barriers you can't get through!!

do they use these already? curious to know how many people will get killed from running into these things and sue the authorities responsible

I think it's awesome, if they did install them at an intersection, and you run into it, that means your a red light runnin dumbass.

What's your defense? There I was minding my own business, running red lights when all of a sudden this thing stopped me from t-boning a busload of school kids, I'd love to be on the Jury.

I think they are designed for high security areas, but i would be in favor of them at regular intersections

Gonna give you a second to find the hole in that logic.

what logic? American can and do sue over just about anything. You don't think some a-hole would try and sue if he got mangled in a car crash running from the cops?

Gonna give you a second to read your first comment again.

That's true. But, earlier you were wondering how many people who got killed would sue. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure you need to be alive to file suit <grin>

Of course, sometimes others will file suit on your behalf. I know a guy who got shot up by some crackhead burglars, but managed to hold on long enough to shoot back. They died, he didn't. The parents came back and sued for "wrongful death". The judge laughed it out of court. Still cost him a pretty penny to defend himself, though.

:laughing11:

good catch guys. Sorry I'm so slow. Of course if somebody were to get killed, their FAMILY would be the ones suing. which is what I was thinking but I didn't cover all my bases.

I can of course see these in an area that requires a large rash of security, but to be honest, I can't see a municipality putting in resouces that heavy into a city street. Although, I could see these being extremely effective at railroad crossings, where people play Russian Roulette with the safety bar and the lights.

I saw on TV, one of those worst drivers programs, a city buss goes into a buss only lane and a set of concrete ballards shoot out of the ground after it passes and cream a car trying to use the lane, it was kinda funny.

As a bus driver in Sydney,  I would SO love to see that sort of technology installed in Sydney's Bus Lanes!!!!  :toothy11:

ATM I can only slow down if I notice an unauthorised vehicle using the buslane to get around a traffic jam and hopefully hold them at traffic lights on Red when I slow down to rush through on Amber....... :evil4:

A lot of that technology is only used on entry points to restricted premises and the like, where there is a high level of security. Usually it would be monitored closely, primarily used to assist those guarding that entrance point (not as the only barrier to that entry point),  and I doubt it could be used on public roads as there is too much potential for malfunction causing all sorts of issues (not the least the legal issue) and this machinery does need maintenance. The amount of small debris that gets into grooves and cracks on public roads is amazing and that stuff would easily foul the cables etc. underneath.
