So this is a Bride of Frankenstein axe I'm putting together as sort of a Riot Grrl kinda guitar.

That humbucker is a gibson burstbucker 3 from my SG standard (I put P90s in that) it's basically a PAF with no wax potting- I love that p'up and the feedback it makes :)

The bridge p'up will be a Flat '51 (broadcaster style) from Bare Knuckle that was in my old tele that had a major accident (the body is toast, but the awesome chunky quarter-sawn maple neck which has it's own long story and history will be mated to this body.)

I've got a vintage bridge with steel saddles on the way- but I've also got a Fender-branded Bigsby with a modified Mustang bridge that I *may* decide to go with- not sure yet. I'm going to set up the hard-tail first, as there's no going back from the Bigsby install.

I've got a pair of sweet NOS Sprague PIO caps and a set of Emerson/CTS pots and all that...

So what's my problem?

Well- the "blue shell" pickguard is way more blue in person than it was on the website where it had a lot more silver/pearl to it... I'm really not sold. Part of me likes it- but part of me does not.

The contrast with the black humbucker and knobs is not what it would be if the 'guard was the same color I thought I was getting. On one hand it's kinda odd, but OTOH it's kinda punk...  ???

It also looks kinda like a toy. Which I both do and do not like.  :dontknow:

I'm reserving judgment until I get the bridge and neck fitted up. The chrome will either make it all work- or f--- it up completely.

The good news is that the pickguard is still totally return-able for another color if I decide I can't take it.

As a riot-grrl kinda girly guitar. it might actually be just the right amount of clashing in-your-face sort of thing. Maybe?

I could also put a chrome pickup cover on the humbucker and go with chrome knobs...

:icon_scratch:

Thoughts?

I don't know what a riot girl even is

But it does look a little dark and bright for the body....

Thanks.

And

AH HA!!!!

Warmoth messed up. Looking at the site- this is clearly "Blue Pearl".

I ordered "Blue Shell", as it states clearly on my order form.

I am calling them now.

I can only visualize the blue shell in my mind's eye, but I think I like the blue pearl better.  I like the "kinda looks like a toy" vibe of it.

When you take the plastic off the guard it should be an even deeper blue and reflect the light more.  I think it's awesome as is.  Actually I think I'd use white pickups and knobs instead.

I'm too much of a fan of the blue shell to like this instead. -Gots blue shell on my seafoam and don't foresee ever changin' it!

Hell ya it is like a abalone shell in the sea. It belongs!! :icon_biggrin:

OK.

After much thought and back and forth- I am keeping the darker "Blue Pearl" that Warmoth sent me.

They happily admitted their mistake and were prepared to swap it out for the "Blue Shell" I ordered- but when I went into the garage to box it up and saw it sitting on top of the body I realized I liked it a lot.

So here she is- almost done. I'm just waiting on a no-load tone pot and I've got to put the strap buttons on.

The neck is a from a MIM "Squier Series" Tele, those have an interesting history you can read about here: http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?t=46444 But long story short- it's most likely an American made neck that got shipped down to Mexico after the factory fire. It's a beautiful neck with a chunkier-than-normal profile that's seen its share of everything.

At some point it got paired to a brass nut (I believe from a YM Strat) that gives it a unique sound on open notes that I love.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!
