Replacing Gibson pots

Hey guys.  I broke the shafts on my Explorer's pots, so I figured I'd replace the pots.  Gibson told me that the stock pots are 300k linear pots for the volume, and 500k audio pots for the two tones.

I'm not too concerned about keeping the pots stock, but I would like the same functionality (i.e. still just 2 vol, 1 tone - no fancy wiring)

Do you guys think I should replace them exactly to Gibby's specs, or would having them all as 500k audio taper provide the same function (and probably be cheaper to order)?

I hear it doesn't make much difference in sound... but might as well go 2meg or something just to see spec junkies eyeballs pop out when you tell them... :laughing7:

I replaced the ones in my Lester with 500k.  Works fine.

Audio or liner taper?  Or does it really matter?

Definitely audio taper.  Linear does not work well in this application.  I used the ones from RS Guitarworks.  They're made by CTS.
