Initial impressions at 10:10 PM PST are extremely favorable. Will test at volume tomorrow. For now, pics!  Hard to capture the color of this guitar in low light. Etchings appear grey using flash, but are black in person.

Man, this a perfectly setup guitar. Strings are low, but have just enough height to dig into bends. Acoustic tone is full with a sparkle on top of each note. Wonderful resonance. Wizard neck is amazing.

My new thoughts on basswood, as this is my first guitar using this type of wood. It’s a great pairing for thin-necked guitars tonewise. I’d only use for fixed bridges with ferrules placed into the back; I’m not comfy enough to sink trem studs into it. It’s fairly soft in my experience.

I'm curious about their tone, how they clean up with the volume control and how they split.

Why? You tried a thicker neck?

I’m not expecting too much sparkle from splits, as these are a higher output of the Bk VHII set, which are almost single coil like in series.

The Ibanez HH wiring scheme has no individual splits, in any case. Position 2 on the switch splits to the inside coils of the buckers and position 4 puts the neck in parallel, so I won’t be able to comment on split tones. Like the other BK’s I’ve owned, I’m expecting good interaction with the volume control.

Alright. Wow.

These are outstanding. They split very well and are extremely clear and rich. Awesome parallel tones!  Makes me want to play bluesy jazz on clean settings and rock with a little gain. Super clear under gain  very touch sensitive and interactive with the volume pot.

These might be my fav BKs yet!  At least in this guitar.

That's cool, Frank. Basswood, too. I've been a little cautious of the stuff because it is soft and perhaps more prone to dings. The weight factor is nice. Now it's good to know it can carry the tone just fine. As much as any body does, that is.

Yeah, man. Zero complaints here. Guitar will prob look like hell in 3 years, but that has an appeal of its own haha.
