Quick tru oil question

I am ready to start finishing my padauk tele in tru oil tomorrow.

How is the guitar positioned when I apply it?  Should I hang it so I can put one coat on the entire guitar, or have it laying down and apply one coat on the topside first?

I am a ==>newbie<== , but I just went through this. Here is what I found: #1, I tried hanging my body from the ceiling and staining, but you end up holding the body with one hand, and staining with the other. I spent to much energy on just keeping the body steady versus focusing on evenly applying stain. I didn't like that. #2, I put the body on a clean table and stained the front and sides - this was much better. But after the front, I immediately hung from ceiling and stained the back side - see hassles of #1 (but not quite so bad).  So here is what I am trying today:  #3 I am going to buy a vise at Lowes or Home Depot, and screw the body to a piece of scrap wood, vise it  - then I'll have optimal control. Troll the message boards and you'll see pictures of this. Lesson learned! Hope that helps.

I was doing that when I started my mahogany Strat body...

You can't see the vise in that picture, but it's just below the stick the body is mounted to. Works like a charm. Haven't worked on it since then, waiting on weather and tools, but I just got it set up to get back to this week. Got a different jig to work on it with now...

It's just for finish work, but it'll be good for that. The stand I got from another member here who's fabbing them up in his garage. He has a thread describing them here if you're interested.

Took about a half hour to make this, then a couple hours for the paint to dry.  Not nearly as fancy as the ones Pirana makes, but it gets the job done.  Didn't have any round tubing, so I used square tubing.  I can still slide out the inner shaft and set it at 90 degree angles.
