So i'm thinking of getting the Warmoth Carved top LP.
There is a heap of parts that i know next to nothing about like:

Capacitors: all i know is that they are somehow connected to the tone and/or volume knobs and a .047uf Capacitor will "roll off" more than a .022
Which point what uf Capacitor would be best for me, a person who loves playing rock, hard rock, metal, trash, death metal death core and extreme low tuning songs as well as lots of clean, thick warm, thwapy songs?

And:
String Ferrules-What are these?

Also:
Copper Shielding Tape- i know what it does, but where do i apply it?

Answer those if you can please,

Thanks, Connor! :icon_thumright:

when you have your tone open, it makes no difference. I always recommend .47 because you can get a bigger range with that one, in case you want it really 'dark' for some reason (solo's, special riffs, etc etc).

I dont use the shielding tape; it just attenuates the highs and when solderered properly, you wont get a hum. I've got 5 les pauls without the shielding, and they're more silent than my others with shielding.

string ferules are the thingies you use to 'stop' the string from sliding out of the body when you have a string-through-body system when used with a recessed tune-o-matic or any other string-through-body bridge.

Thanks man!

I'll tell you what i've got planned to build when i save up for it! ( If i save up!)

Carved top LP Drilled for OFR Quilted maple top mahogany back-Top Black red yellow burst Sides- Solid Black Back- Solid Black

1: cool mockup!
2: here are some pointers:

a:black MAPLE neck? why not a wenge neck? better feel, almost-similar tone to maple (but a tad more punchy and warm). I'd take wenge, any time of the week.
b: quilt maple will only be done as a double lamtop, and thus only with binding! dont forget to add the 110$ for the binding (and I'm not sure if the DL-quilts are already available as a real, regular option. ask your sales rep!)
c: look into the batterybox rout. that would mean you dont have the battery in the cavity but outside. easier switching, better access. Believe thats something like 30$.
d: I suppose you're gonna use all black hardware? if so, dont forget to make EVERYTHING black. it just sucks to have chrome (xxx) and a black (xxx) and a gold (xxx), when you can have everything black (things like black output jack, black neckplate, black screws, etc etc).

anyway: when its done, please post it here, ok ? :D

Double lamtop? What is that? : :confused4:

well. what do you think it is? :) I ask other users not to tell what it is, until the topicstarter has guessed what it is.

hint: the words, double lamtop (with lam meaning laminated!) already hint what it is....

I simply will not tell what it is unless you already looked it up and still have no idea what it is. I wont chew it for you. you've got to do some research yourself.

I'm guessing it's just your desired piece of wood on the top of the guitar on top of another wood

In my case a mahogany body, then quilted maple is on top?

close, but not quite. you have your bodyback, and your regular maple top, topped off with a nice, quilt top. a double laminate. otherwise its just a laminate.

Take a look at the showcase, there were a couple nice DL quilt toped LPs there.  There is also a nice discription on the LP section of the site coving the DL construction.

Bubinga also has a very nice sound to it.  Seems to me a bit brighter then Mohagany.

I like your color plans, I recently finished a LP in the same burst, it is posted in the LP section if wanna get a visual on how it will look with the black hardware (very aggressive look I think).

Welcome to the board...

Thanks

I think i'll stick to the mahogany because i'll be playing a lot more "dark" tones then something bright.

To be brutally honest with you guys, i'm 13 and i probably know more abut guitars themselves than playing guitar :laughing7:(unless i'm really trying!)

Dude, I think that's true of many of us.  :icon_thumright:

one problem: if you wanna play lots of 'dark', you need something to 'brighten' it up, otherwise it will mush up.
