Preping for Nitro clear finish

I'm about to spray my peghead veneer with Nitro. Can you tell me if there's any preping? Whether I need to sand and with what grade. The veneer is Imbuia (African Black Walnut) over Bubinga neck. Aside from sanding is there any filling? It looks like a very tight wood grain so I'm guessing not.

Thanks

Joz

I usually sand at 600 , then use a nitro sealer ( stew-mac)  . sand back with 800-1000 then shoot the gloss coats.

Neither imbuia or bubinga need a finish on them,  are you doing it because the body is glossy?

but with the headstock, I really see no need in filler. But if you do want a filler CA works great on the headstock. When I did my mahogany neck, I just shot it with a couple light coats of sealer. Then smoothed it with 400, and then shot it with satin nitro, and would sand it smooth about every 3rd to 4th coat.
