This is why soul music is called soul music.  Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Broken Bells are FINE! It's like a...barrage out there. My other home-away is the steel guitar forum, and due to demographics, at least a few times a week some older gents start up the "all of the good music has already been played...." Imagine turning on the radio, and the television, thinking that was...IT. Lands sake's. I poked back a few pages, I can't BELIEVE we didn't get to these guys?

Eric Johnson & Mike Stern have been guesting on each other's albums and playing a few songs here and there for years, but they appear to be making a serious go of the "band" thing for a while and it's really, really good. They have a studio CD out, "Eclectic", which is a good deal more interesting than those things often are. When Eric Johnson was 15, 16, he was a quite serious student of jazz guitar a la Barney Kessell, Joe Pass etc.; When Mike Stern was at a comparative age, he was deep into Hendrix... they have a lot of fun, fiddling about with structures as well as "how many notes can fit in here?"

Speaking of Canadians, this singer made the interesting observation that as a card-carrying Canadian, he can't play "Americana!" But these guys kick major 'nuck booty: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GeVW7aVShY&list=PLXNWhrSnVuhEVXOX54lowZpY4H0OWICY4&index=10

If you don't know too much about this stuff, let me assure you: that is one kick-ass slide guitarist! He's not baring his teeth (or chest), he's not howlin' an imitation of a blind black 101-year-old cotton-pickin' BLUESMAN* - lawsy-momma, AKA "thank goodness!" - he's just playing very, very well. They ALL listen.

P.S. (Asstoote observers may note that both the black "strats" have been at least partially "Cooderized" with what looks to be Lollar "gold foil" pickups. The patterns of the holes in the pickup covers.... I don't quite "get" those, they sound just like a strat PU turned down some to me, but I could never seriously criticize random gear lust, I mean really.... if being old and weird is now valuable I be a billionaire!)

*(Hasn't Buddy Guy made it to Chicago YET?!? Couldn't blooozmen wake up in the afternoon and save demseffs a world o' trouble?) :icon_scratch:

Fun Eric Johnson cover of "The Wind Cries Mary," and it's not what you'd expect.  Gospel piano!

The Bee Gees could write a fuckin' song, Maynard. And with this one, it's really easy to make up your own lewd lyrics to sing while driving:

Man, I can't believe they stream the entire album so soon after its release.
Not that I need it, as a mega fan I pre-ordered World on Fire and let me tell you it does not disappoint!

I'm on a Hendrix vibe at the moment.

Exactly what I thought the first time I heard this Stub!  :icon_thumright:
With all the various versions and remakes by a cast of millions, SRV finally showed us a glimpse of what I believe Jimi was reaching for / hearing in his head when he played Little Wing! What a jam session it would have been to have gotten the 2 of them together on a stage, trading licks!  :guitarplayer2:

Always been a huge fan of Mr. DiMeola. I bought that disk when it was first released. He takes a lotta liberty with most of it - if you didn't know what you were listening to, you wouldn't think you were hearing what he says he's doing. Little risk of copyright infringement suits, is what I'm saying, although I'm sure he had all the appropriate permissions. Still, very high-end stuff, if you appreciate that sort of thing.

I'm also a fan of Al Di Meola, he has great musicality.

Been in a Tele vibe today though.
