Hey guys,

Planning the third build (this stuff is like crack) and need some opinions. See the two mockups below. The guitar will be strat style and include a mahogany back, solid rosewood neck, and will most likely be finished in a couple very light layers of Tru-Oil (I do not want glossy shiny finish on this one). The body is chambered with dual F holes and ivoroid binding.  As you can see, it will have two humbuckers and chrome hardware. Also, the Koa is about $175 more expensive!

Thanks!

I think the zebra top matches the neck better. I'd lose the F holes if it was me, but that's just a matter of taste so it doesn't count.

The koa looks better with the binding.  The zebra looks better with the neck wood choice.  I'd go for the koa + binding with a maple neck.  I know, around here, maple necks are heresy.

I'm not crazy about Zebra, so I'd have to say Koa. I used to drool over the Koa in the Carvin catalog in the eighties. But that was before I discovered Black Korina. :). Seriously though, Mahogany, Black Korina, and Koa are all pretty in their own right, and more or less functionally equivalent IMHO.

I have never really liked Zebra wood so I am biased towards the Koa.  Zebra wood just reminds me of the 80's for some reason.
