Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it...isn't.

I'd just like to point out that accusing me of hijacking this thread is pretty crazy. Go back and read it; I did the post about the other "pieces of junk", then another post saying what I'd do as a way forward from here with the other guy. On that second post, I put an aside in square brackets at the end, about the fact that if he wanted to go straight into the desk then he'd be better off with a modeller - the reason for that being that if he'd profiled Daze's amp the damage wouldn't have occurred.

Daze then picked up on that last comment and responded to it. I responded in kind, and so on. I thought we were just having a friendly conversation, with the original purpose of the thread achieved. It turns out I "hijacked" the thread - presumably what I was meant to do was just not respond to anything off-topic from the original post, even if said off-topic material was posted by the original poster. I will bear this in mind.

No, your post is completely off the mark.  I was asking what the issue or issues with the amplifier could be, not what I should use in the future.  While I certainly appreciate the suggestion (really, I do...), I wasn't looking for alternatives to recording.  The thread has now gone from being about troubleshooting a head to digital effects to a "he said, she said" debate.  All I wanted were some suggestions as to possible solutions to a problem.

Look, I don't have issue with a tech thread taking a turn as long as the question(s) at hand are answered first.

If you were uninterested in my tangential point you could have simply not responded to it, and that line of conversation would have ended there. My use of square brackets was intended to make that possibility implicit.

It's fine, I'll bow out and I'm sorry your thread didn't go how you wanted it to. I genuinely thought I was being helpful or at least tangentially interesting, and didn't realise that any slight deviation, however carefully flagged, would be responded to for a while and then deemed offensive. I will refrain in future.

Jumble, I seriously roll my eyes at your last statement.  As I mentioned, and you clearly,  purposefully chose to overlook, I did post that I appreciated your suggestion.  Take it as you will.

I hope you're enjoying your holiday.

FINALLY got my head back!  It turns out the preamp tubes were going and the power tubes were also warn out.  The explanation I got for the preamp tubes was that there was some sort of tube that was part of the "interface" of the head, which basically directs the power to the separate tubes, or something like that.  I can't recall what he said the tube was called, but it was one of the 12AX7s.

I replaced the power tubes with Groove Tubes EL34s and the preamp tubes are Muellers(?).  He said the 12AX7s were JJs and according to him, the JJ 12AX7s are garbage.  I'm not sure if I'm willing to go as far as to say that, as they lasted me close to two years.

Anyway, regardless, I'm rockin' again!  I've been having to suffer through the usage of a solid state for the past few weeks, and it's been killing me.  :guitarplayer2:
