Plain Maple Top

I realize why it's called a Studio, but I don't think it's very aptly named. Seems like most studios would probably have a Standard or Custom, or something vintage. Then again there might be a few studios out there with Studio models. I know some try to keep as many decent instruments on hand as possible.

If Gibson charged reasonably for a Studio with binding I think it would fly off the shelves. But they won't, which is probably why there are so many LP copies being sold.

I also thought the whole appeal of the Les Paul was the maple cap on the mahogany body.

Actually, the LP Custom from the 50's (all black) had a Mahogany top.  No one complains about it (or perhaps even notices)

Maybe "studio" is a play on words - recording studio, but also like a "studio apartment", i.e. very basic and functional.

Old thread with a new request... Now that the LP is gone can we get plain maple on Carved top telecasters? It might be no problem if you call, but its not listed on the site so I'm not sure.

They make it.
