Building a guitar is fun, but to really make it worth it, you need to play and see what your favorite things are. Neck shapes, widths, fret sizes, body styles, pickups, woods, controls...
Once you know all that, you can really build a dream guitar.
Upgrading guitars is a great way to find out what you like. Maybe if you got a MIM guitar, you could switch out parts for Warmoth parts.
Actually, sorry, but it sounds like many people's suggestions were helpful. I'm glad you didn't get a guitar you didn't want, which might have been the case if you bought Warmoth immediately. I actually have some things I wish I studied more on my tele. I wish I had a different neckback and a different neck width.
