I was looking at this guitar catalog I got today, and I saw this guitar with 3 humbuckers.

Why would you want 3? Why do you want HSH? why HXH? I just had never wondered about that, and I know you guys here are experienced enough to answer my questions in a better way then those random sites i found with google.  :icon_biggrin:

I think the idea behind HSH is you can have a Gibson (H-whatever-H) and then tap the humbuckers and have a Fender (SSS).  Or you could set up a 5-way:  H/S+S/S/S+S/H, where the S+S positions use tapped humbuckers.

HXH is the standard Gibson conf.iguration.

HHH is kind of an upgrade to the HXH config... it replaces the "both" position with the neck+middle position.  It could be the mezcal speaking but I think it sounds somewhat throatier, somewhat ballsier.  Personally I LOVE the sound of a humbucker in the neck so I'm biased... when the middle position moves a bit closer to the neck I'm happy.  :)

I love a HHH setup. it looks cool, thats for sure (For me) and I use the 3rd humbucker a lot. I have a prails (seymour duncan) in that position, and now I can get real stratty tones, and a pure p90 sound, but also a nice humbuckersound whenever I want that. It gives me a more vintage rock n roll sound.

Middle humbucker gives an alternative sound for overdriven rythm sound. Not trebly like bridge, not muddy like neck.

I did a "custom" Strat build with 3 HBs; used a RG TX/BBQ set in the bridge/neck positions and an SD Jazz in the middle for a completely different mellower rhythm sound.
