Pickup Ring Questions

Okay, I have a USACG Jazzmaster body (flat top, non-tilt neck pocket).  Am I correct that I do NOT need tilted pickup rings?  Second, Stewmac only sells the non-tilting metal pickup rings in one height, not a tall and a short as they do with the tilting style.  Is it acceptable to use the same height ring for both the neck and bridge pickups?

Thanks!

jazzmaster pickups do not have pickup rings. Are you getting humbuckers instead? If you are not angling the neck and you are using humbuckers, I would guess that the flat rings would be the best, but I doubt that you would have a problem either way.

Warmoth also sell them: 1/16" thickness.....link below.

Please confirm that you have the body routed for humbuckers and are fitting in humbuckers? :dontknow:

As another poster said, AFAIK there are no Jazmmaster pickup 'rings' on the market.

Also, 'non-tilt neck pocket'. What sort of bridge is going onto that body?

Some clarifications are obviously in order.

1.  Yes, it is routed for humbuckers

2.  It is also a rear routed body (no pick guard)

3.  It has the "standard" neck pocket (using a Hipshot hardtail bridge)

So, again my questions:

a.  Tilted or non-tilted rings?

b.  Same height for both the neck and bridge or should the bridge ring (and hence PUP) be taller?

I would say with a non-tilt neck and a standard hardtail bridge, the flat pickup rings, both the same height would be the right choice.

If you think about it, many guitars with non-tilted necks use pickguards, which have all the pickups mounted at the same height (with adjustment possible obviously,) so if you are using a similar guitar without a pickguard it makes sense to still have all the pickup mounting rings at the same height.

That does make absolute sense.  Indeed, my confusion may have been based on the fact that the only other guitars I have built have been LP style, with the Tunomatic bridge setup.

Thanks!
