For a Warmoth Telecaster. But I need Strat pickups, as the guitar has strat pickup routing.

A few brands have come to mind:

-Fender (CS 69s for Neck + Mid)
-Duncan SSL-5 (for bridge)
-Fralins (all positions)

I'm really getting nowhere in my hunt. TOO. MANY. CHOICES.

Thanks
Ben.

I've had Fender Texas Specials, Red/Blue/Silver Lace Sensors and Fralins with the blend pot in my Strat.
Personally I favor the Fralins.  They nail the vintage tone , and do everything from crystal clean to ragin overdrive with great results.

Hi Ben what style of music is yours? If you are going for a classic  60s/70s Strat sound I recommend the WCR SR pickups! They are very expensive (430 US$ incl. pots and cap) but they are far beyond everything else I have heared in a Strat before.

Check out Derek Neece, he's playing a Fender Strat with WCR SR set...

Fender '69, Fralin Blues, Van Zand Vintage and Leosounds 1962ST/ red house are close together and also really good choice!

There are probably a ton of great pickups out there, you won't go wrong with any of the stuff people are mentioning I'm sure. Check out the sound clips on Acme's site if you have good headphones or monitors on your computer, to me they all sound really good but similar - some are a bit brighter, some with a bit more kick, but all good. I kind of think that the first pickups you install on a guitar are like a 'guess' at the right sound, once you hear a particular pickup in your particular guitar / rig / played by you, you can better say 'I want something that cleans up better', or 'more ballz than this plz' or whatever. I have only really gotten it right the first time once or twice with pickups.

+2.

Seriously, they're all great pickups.  Check these out and do a blind challenge.

I think Ed Roman still has some really cheap, (inexpensive $25), used/demo EMG pickups you could probably experiment with...  maybe try winding your own pickups?

You're probably right, I was only thinking of trying some used pickups to see what works best.  But I guess you can look for them anywhere, (EBAY)... If the PU Ben ends up with doesn't suit his needs, then it might be a good core if he wants to attempt a DIY winding.  There is a lot of good info on this subject here.

But as far as Ed goes, I've never looked at his website until a few hours ago... thekiwidisciple, I see your point!

you should check out BG pups brian gunsher makes great hand wound pups at reasonable prices..

Sorry didn't read that they were "all" routed for strat, as such I go for Texas Specials.

Wow, those Brian Gunsher ones sound awesome. I was looking at having some made up by TroubledTreble (Ken), but he's having problems with his recording equipment, and this guitar is waiting for some pickups, so I might look at Ken's ones for my Squier Strat later on.

I think I might go for the Gunshers!
